A mayoral candidate in Japan has vowed to replace politicians with artificial intelligence that he says will gather statistics on voters to create policies. Michihito Matsuda, outlining his campaign in Tama New Town, western Tokyo, insisted machines would be able to crunch data to form'clearly defined politics'. Photographs show his campaign poster, which features a picture of a metallic humanoid robot with female features, on cars and billboards in the area. Matsuda, 44, made an impassioned speech outlining his unusual political vision for the vast Tama New Town housing development, which was built in the 1960s and is the largest in Japan. He said: 'Tama New Town was the most advanced city in Japan 40 years ago.

SHENZHEN: Telecom industry is not in a healthy state but artificial intelligence will help networks to solve structure issues at root and enable self-healing and self-optimizing of networks, according to Eric Xu, Rotating Chairman, Huawei. Speaking at HAS 2018, Xu explained how Huawei has been working on its SoftCOM AI network which is a new architecture enabling automation and digitization of networks. "Less than 10% organizations are actually able to create value from AI," said Xu. Huawei will continue to focus on ICT infrastructure and smart devices and will continue to invest in broadband and home network solutions, Xu added. "..we'll continue to make further investment in big data and network"." Xu told that Huawei will be applying AI to all its products and solutions and even use it for internal operations. "We aim to bring AI to cloud, network and smart devices and use it as extensively as possible," he stated. Talking about data and its applications, Xu said that the government and organizations have a very patchy situation when it comes to data utilization. "..data is not like oil for many enterprises because it's not processed properly." Xu also touched upon the company's situation in United States when asked about it, as it had previously received setbacks in the country. "There have been so many stories between US and China that one would need an entire day to explain.

Scientists develop AI-based deep learning drug interaction, prediction system

A group of South Korean scientists have developed a deep learning system based on artificial intelligence that can precisely predict interactions between drugs, the government said Tuesday. According to the Ministry of Science and ICT, the team led by Lee Sang-yup of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology developed the so-called deep drug-drug interactions technology, which can make it far easier to determine what kind of interaction will occur between various drugs. DDI is an important consideration in both drug development and clinical application as it can help prevent side effects caused by combining different drugs. Conventional methods could only predict what kind of interactions could occur between drugs but not detailed pharmacological actions.

A group of computer scientists have built a machine learning algorithm that can sniff out fake profiles lurking on social networks. It's likely that you and your Facebook friends have the same mutual friends. And on Twitter, it's also probable that your followers also follow the same people you do too due to common interests. These associations in social networks can be modeled on a graph as edges, where users are the vertices or nodes. The researchers from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, and the University of Washington, United States, hunted for fake social media accounts by developing an unsupervised learning algorithm that measures the probability of an edge existing between vertices.
