China plans to use artificial intelligence (AI) and drones to protect the Great Wall. Under an agreement between the government and the US tech giant Intel, the world's second largest manufacturer of semiconductors and microprocessors and the China Foundation For Cultural Heritage Conservation will explore ways to collaborate in the inspection, repair and preservation of the Great Wall, Xinhua news agency reported. To begin with, Intel drones will collect images from sections of the monument and use 3D modelling to identify damaged areas. "The use of the latest technologies, will provide a new perspective of the protection of the Great Wall, and show us the great potential of science and technology in cultural heritage protection," said Li Xiaojie, director of the China Foundation For Cultural Heritage Conservation. The Great Wall, a symbol of China, is actually not just one wall, but many interconnected walls built between the third century B.C. and the Ming Dynasty (1384-1644).

BENGALURU: Google is expanding its efforts to engage with startups in tier-II cities in India, after running a year-long pilot through its'Solve for India' programme. The American internet firm is launching a three-month India-focused mentoring programme for startups that are building solutions to serve the country's local needs and solve problems using technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. The company will select eight to 10 startups for the programme, which is expected to be rolled out in the second half of this year, said Paul Ravindranath G, programme manager, Launchpad Accelerator, Google India. "We have learnt a lot through the pilot in the past one year. We have also built a mentorship network to resolve the challenges faced by these startups," he said.

It seems that China's doctor shortage has taken a hit - in comparison to the US, they boast a low number of doctors for every 1,000 people at 1.5. The U.S. has 2.5 doctors for every 1,000 people in comparison. According to an IDC report, China's health care services could be as high as $930 million by 2022. Plus, China's need for AI tools as less restrictions will have an effect on the outcome of the cost, as a result. There are already various AI tools being put to development for medicinal purposes that will also help to improve the situation China is in.

Factories have changed considerably over the last century. One of the most significant changes to occur during this time has been the introduction of robots to the manufacturing process. With all of this automation, it is easy to believe that these modern factories are futuristic environments where machines outperform human workers at every turn. However, most of these machines are not as smart as they may seem. The US Army is using AI to try and give soldiers super-learning capabilities. The experimental system would allow American troops to analyse new information far faster than they can at the moment. Initial tests have found U.S. Soldiers can learn 13 times faster than conventional methods using the system. The U.S. Army Research Laboratory project is designed to'help Soldiers decipher hints of information faster and more quickly deploy solutions, such as recognizing threats like a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, or potential danger zones from aerial war zone images.' It uses a combination of computers and AI software to analyse information on the battlefield.
