For Thailand, Dell's vision is consistent with the government's "Thailand 4.0" initiative which focuses on the digital transformation of the Thai economy and society. Under this initiative, the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) covering parts of Rayong, Chon Buri and Chachoengsao provinces is a showcase example of smart cities and a new generation of industries and services. In his keynote speech at the 2018 Dell Technologies/World event in Las Vegas on April 30, Dell said big data is the new "rocket fuel", and when it is leveraged with AI and Machine Learning (ML) capabilities on the next 5G communication platform the results will be unprecedented. He cited smart cities and autonomous cars as examples of how massive data running to the tune of, say, 200 petabytes per day from just one city, and its IoT devices plus self-driving vehicles, can be used to improve the way people live, commute and do other activities. According to Dell, all stakeholders and businesses should benefit from the new digital infrastructure required to deliver unprecedented results as the use of cloud-based computing and storage facilities will be combined with the so-called "edge" computing capability such as that of autonomous cars and other smart devices.

A U.S.-based company has launched tech education in Chennai and NASSCOM predicts 1.5 lakh "Artificial Intelligence" and "Data-science" jobs by 2025. According to Gartner, the global research and advisory firm, artificial intelligence will add 2.3 million jobs across the globe by 2020. SIRI, ALEXA, self-driving cars are all the outcome of research in AI and related fields. It is this aspect that Skillknox, a U.S.-based education and technology company, hopes to ride on, with its recent entry into the Indian market. The company aims at harnessing new technologies and offering training to college students on artificial intelligence, data sciences, AR/MR/VR and machine learning.

Now, Indian Railways to use Artificial Intelligence to control air circulation
While Indian Railways is already using this technique to detect flaws or problems in the signalling system, the national transporter will now reportedly use artificial intelligence (AI) to control air circulation, signages, supervision and maintenance work in the 10.28 km-long tunnel in Imphal, the capital of Manipur. This is part of Indian Railways' 110-km line Jiribam to Imphal project. The Artificial Intelligence system will control air circulation and alert the passenger in case of fire. This tunnel has reportedly a safety spot every 500 meters. "In case of an accident or any mishap, passengers have to go 500 meters into the safety tunnel and through signages find their way out," Yogesh Verma, deputy chief, construction, Northeast Frontier Railway told PTI.
FPT Software floats trial of self-driving cars - Vietnam Insider
FPT Software has asked the Ministry of Transport and relevant sectors for permission to operate self-driving autos in hi-tech zones and software parks nationwide on an experimental basis. FPT said it had studied the self-driving technology from 2016 to October 31, 2017, before announcing the first self-driving vehicle in Viet Nam. The company had been operating trams in central Da Nang City (around F-Complex, FPT Software Da Nang) and self-driving cars around FPT Software HCM City. The self-driving vehicles have a speed of 20-25kmph on an average and can reach up to 40kmph in a straight direction. It can self-align, turn in line and avoid obstacles or tripping when needed.

AI in the supply chain: Logistics gets smart
For California-based Infinera, 2017 was not an easy year. The manufacturer of telecom equipment saw revenue drop from $870 million in 2016 to $740 million in 2017. Gross margin went down from 45 percent to 33 percent. In the end, the company, which employs about 2,000 people across the U.S., Canada, China, India, and Sweden, reported a net loss of $195 million for the year, compared to a net loss of $24 million in 2016. To turn things around, one of the things the company is focused on is technological improvements, CEO Thomas Fallon told investors earlier this year.
