Understanding The Workings Of Natural Language Processing Vs Natural Language Generation
Digital assistants, chatbots and other conversational interfaces have become the most widely-adopted technologies in the recent days. Their ability to carry human-like conversations in a seamless manner could be attributed to their tremendous popularity, which is in turn driven by two underlying technologies -- Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Natural Language Generation (NLG). These two branches of machine learning are enabling the conversion of human language to computer commands and vice versa. As these technologies are enabling humans to have a conversation with machines in an effective manner and augmenting human intelligence, we bring to you an article that discusses the differences between NLP and NLG, their working and some common use cases. The most popular definition of NLP describes it as a process which turns text into structured data when the computer reads the language. In short, NLP is computer's reading language.
Statistics, Artificial Intelligence Can Help Humanity: M Venkaiah Naidu
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu today said statistics, data management and artificial intelligence can play a pivotal role in the betterment of humanity. "We were living in a world in which knowledge explosion, information overload and data-driven lives have become common place," said Mr Naidu at the closing ceremony of 125th birth anniversary of Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, the founder of Indian Statistical Institute. "Technology has become all-pervasive in our world... Statistics and big data management along with artificial intelligence will play a more significant role in the years to come," he added. Statistical data was "information with confirmation" he said, adding that "many people may claim many things, but if you have statistics you will know the reality". Highlighting that there was a need to harness the power of computing, communication and robotics to improve the quality of life, Mr Naidu said to use these tools, data and statistics were needed.

Leena AI builds HR chatbots to answer policy questions automatically
Say you have a job with a large company and you want to know how much vacation time you have left, or how to add your new baby to your healthcare. This usually involves emailing or calling HR and waiting for an answer, or it could even involve crossing multiple systems to get what you need. Leena AI, a member of the Y Combinator Summer 2018 class, wants to change that by building HR bots to answer questions for employees instantly. The bots can be integrated into Slack or Workplace by Facebook and they are built and trained using information in policy documents and by pulling data from various back-end systems like Oracle and SAP. Adit Jain, co-founder at Leena AI, says the company has its roots in another startup called Chatteron, which the founders started after they got out of college in India in 2015.
Joint Artificial Intelligence Center Created Under DoD CIO
WASHINGTON: The Pentagon has created a new Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) that will have oversight over almost all service and defense agency AI efforts. The JAIC will report to Chief Information Officer Dana Deasy, the establishing memo by Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Shanahan says. Its ambit is not quite untrammeled; any projects under $15 million remain the authority of the service or agency. The JAIC will establish a common set of AI "standardsโฆ. Undersecretary for Research & Engineering Mike Griffin, a far more prominent proponent of AI and other cutting-edge technologies who has warned China and Russia are catching up to the US, "will continue to promote development of new AI technologies, systems, and concepts" but without any clearly specified role in the new center.

Will China's Artificial-Intelligence Push Buckle Trump's Tech Wall?
China is on its way to developing a strong artificial-intelligence industry and won't be derailed by the Trump administration's steps to protect sensitive American technologies amid rising trade tensions. So says Nomura-Instinet analyst Joel Ying. In a note to clients Friday, Ying said Alibaba Group (BABA) and other Chinese internet giants are funding a slew of artificial-intelligence startups. "Despite headwinds from the U.S.-China disputes in the high-tech sector, we believe Chinese companies can still maintain strong momentum in the AI industry," he wrote. NVIDIAVoice: When Robocars Get Stuck, VR Here To Help
Autonomous vehicles will open up a wide range of benefits by removing the human from the driver's seat. They free up valuable time, enabling us to be more productive during trips or they can complete deliveries and other services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. While a range of different sensors and high performance AI supercomputers running redundant and diverse algorithms will safely pilot the vehicle, some tricky obstacles may pop up during neighborhood or delivery driving. A new construction site may not appear on a robotaxi's map, and a detour may not be readily apparent. A moving truck may block an autonomous delivery vehicle's path, and it can't see a way around.
Bionic hand give amputees a sense of TOUCH
A bionic hand that restores amputees' sense of touch is set to change the lives of thousands who have lost limbs, claim scientists. Two middle-aged men who lost their right hands in horrific accidents at work have revealed how the device has given them back their independence over the last two years. Keith Vonderhuevel, 51, from Ohio, is now able to pick up his grandchildren - and actually'feel' their hands for the first time. And Igor Spetic, 52, also from Ohio, has been filmed at home brushing his teeth, combing his hair, cutting eggs and tomatoes and drizzling mayonnaise. Named'Sensation', the bionic hand could revolutionise the treatment of maimed members of the Armed Forces, its developers claim.
