Madden 18: EA apologises after muting reference to Colin Kaepernick in game
Colin Kaepernick has had his name mysteriously removed from the upcoming Madden NFL 2018 game. The footballer โ who will not appear in the game because he has been without a contract since last year โ also had his name muted in a song on the game, in the same way as happens to swear words. Developers EA Sports said that it had "messed up" and that the name had been removed as a mistake. It said that the decision had been made amid confusion about rights โ claiming that his name had been muted because EA was not sure whether they would be allowed to use it. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph.
AI Application Development Platform Dbrain Raises $8M Investment Led by Bitfury and AngelVest ForkLog
A syndicate of investors including Angelvest, Bitfury Group, and a consortium of cryptocurrency traders is making a $3 million equity investment to the AI application development platform Dbrain. This comes after an earlier $5 million investment from Bitfury in Dbrain's DBR token and brings total capital raised to $8 million. Dbrain #fundraising reaches an important milestone. New iPhone: 2018 model might give up on headphone jack entirely, reports suggest
Apple is expected to remove the headphone adapter with its next iPhone, leaving people unable to use traditional headphones with their new mobiles. The company famously โ or infamously โ dropped the headphone jack from its handsets with the iPhone 7. But at the time it promised that nothing much would change for people with traditional headphones, since the box would come with an adapter that would allow them to be plugged into the charging port. Now that adapter is being removed, according to various reports. As such, people will be required to stop using their traditional headphones, or get an adapter of their own.
R2 uses big data to develop AI solutions for enterprise customers
Artificial intelligence is the hot new thing in enterprise. A whopping 80 percent of businesses have some form of machine learning in production today, according to a study commissioned by Teradata, and fully 21 percent have ongoing AI pilot projects. Those without AI expertise might turn to R2.ai, a three-year-old Silicon Valley-based startup providing tools that help customers develop AI solutions. "We're the AI that helps create AI," CEO Yiwen Huang told VentureBeat in an interview. "Our goal is to make data accessible for all [and to] drive mass adoption across different industries."
India's AI strategy should be to create a data infrastructure
Hardly a week passes without yet another story about the Artificial Intelligence race between China and the US. China has allocated massive funding to AI to enable new capabilities in transportation, surveillance and weapons. China is "all in" on AI, with Chinese private funding in AI in the last decade growing seven-fold faster than US funding. India has largely ignored AI. No Indian university or think-tank figures as a serious AI research entity measured by citations or other measures of innovation such as victories in prestigious AI contests, where algorithms compete on standard problems.

As Britain braces for a second bout of scorching weather this weekend, experts have warned this summer could finally break the records set by the infamous heatwave of 1976. The blistering temperatures in June stood toe-to-toe with those of June 1976, while this summer's July was hotter than its counterpart 42 years ago. If Britain is hit by a hotter-than-average August - as has been forecast by advanced computer models - 2018 could be the hottest summer ever recorded. This year's prolonged heat is the result of a number of factors, including extended high pressure and higher than average surface temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean. Experts have also warned that rising global temperatures caused by climate change are making the heatwaves gripping the northern hemisphere more ferocious and more likely.

Using Artificial Intelligence to Fix Wikipedia's Gender Problem
Miriam Adelson is an accomplished physician who's published around a hundred research papers on the physiology and treatment of addiction, and runs a high-profile substance-abuse clinic in Las Vegas. Yet Wikipedia does not have an entry for her. Adelson was among thousands of names flagged by Quicksilver, a software tool by San Francisco startup Primer designed to help Wikipedia editors fill in blind spots in the crowdsourced encyclopedia. Its underrepresentation of women in science is a particular target. The world's fifth most-visited website has a long-running problem with gender bias: Only 18 percent of its biographies are of women.
