Over 200 attendees attended the blockchain meetup in Istanbul, Turkey co-organized by SamuraiSignals and MATRIX AI Network on July 28th, to explore leading edge developments in blockchain. In his talk, IDA cofounder, Mr. Walter Wang outlined four innovations shaping the future of asset digitization. Wang said that the technical basis for asset digitization, is creating a digitized representation of real assets or IP assets in a binary code format -- however, there are currently the following challenges to overcome before the technology can be applied widely. As part of a project dubbed "Dragonfly," Google is testing a mobile version of its search engine that would adhere to China's strict censors, people familiar with the matter said.

BENGALURU: Software services major Wipro and Genesys International Corporation have signed a pact to develop solutions for autonomous vehicles. While Genesys will use its core strength and the expertise to develop high definition maps and content, Wipro will develop the navigational and control technology for autonomous system and smart mobility companies, said Genesys in a statement. As part of the pact, Wipro and Genesys first worked on creating a high definition map of the Wipro campus in Bengaluru and that has now been enabled the pilot vehicle, developed by Wipro, to drive around the campus autonomously. Infosys, India's second largest software services exporter, tested a driverless golf cart nearly a year ago to show its capabilities in the autonomous vehicle industry. "Wipro's partnership with Genesys will further accelerate the deployment of these solutions in the autonomous system space. This partnership enhances Wipro's offering in the autonomous system market and reinforces our ability to support the initiative of our global customers," K R Sanjiv, Chief Technology Officer, Wipro, was quoted in the statement.

The killing of four Palestinian children aged 10 and 11 by an Israeli air strike on a Gaza beach during the 2014 war could have been prevented, internal documents seen by US website The Intercept show. The boys were killed by an armed Israeli drone that fired two missiles, with the second one hitting and killing four and injuring several others. On July 16, 2014, four children were playing near a shipping container on a jetty that had been destroyed by an Israeli air strike a day earlier because the Israeli military suspected it of being used as a weapons cache by armed members of Hamas. However, experts, journalists and eyewitnesses have all contested the claim weapons were stored in the container, as no members of Hamas were seen in the vicinity and there was no second explosion following the air strike that destroyed it. On the day of the attack, one of the children entered the remains of the container, and was spotted by two Israeli drones, one of which was armed.

Artificial intelligence promises to make hiring an unbiased utopia. Employee referrals, a process that tends to leave underrepresented groups out, still make up a bulk of companies' hires. Recruiters and hiring managers also bring their own biases to the process, studies have found, often choosing people with the "right-sounding" names and educational background. Across the pipeline, companies lack racial and gender diversity, with the ranks of underrepresented people thinning at the highest levels of the corporate ladder. Driving business operations and leading innovation and transformation are regarded as extremely desired skills. In an interview with our sister title CIO UK, SThree CIO Lance Fisher explained the change in nature of his job: "I split IT into two. You have to learn and understand the business and its competitive advantage, understand how your competitors run their businesses and then look to deliver competitive advantage. I firmly believe as a CIO you are the glue. You need to connect IT to the business, vendors and your clients."

LINE's consolidated subsidiary Gatebox Inc. has begun to take orders for the latest model of Gatebox, the world's first "virtual home robot" that allows owners to live together and interact with a virtual character. The Gatebox uses the latest in projection and sensing technologies to create the interactive virtual character. A limited-run model (the GTBX-1) of only 300 units went on sale in 2016 and sold out in just one month, despite costing approximately JPY300,000 (about SGD3,650). When an addition run of 39 units went on sale in 2017, the company received some 1,000 orders. Since then, many people have asked for another run of the innovative device, so Gatebox Inc. has responded with this new, mass-production model, the GTBX-100.

"Watson represents a technology breakthrough that can help physicians improve patient outcomes," said Herbert Chase, a professor of biomedical informatics at Columbia University, in a 2012 IBM press release. Six years and billions of dollars later, the diagnosis for Watson is gloomy. More than a dozen IBM partners and clients have halted or shrunk Watson's oncology-related projects. In many cases, the tools didn't add much value.
