NHS Hospitals Turn to Deep Learning and Advanced Algorithms to Fight Heart Disease
WIRE)--New technology using deep learning and advanced algorithms to evaluate blood flow to the heart is now being used in English hospitals to fight against coronary heart disease. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is one of the leading causes of death in the UK. It is responsible for more than 66,000 deaths each year and it is estimated that 2.3 million people in the UK are currently living with the diseasei. CHD develops when the arteries leading to the heart narrow or become blocked, which can reduce blood flow, and cause chest pain and heart attacksii. The HeartFlow FFRct Analysis is being supported by NHS England as part of the Innovation and Technology Payment (ITP) programme to help physicians better diagnose coronary heart disease.

SenseTime to Collaborate with Rockchip on AI Facial Recognition Chip -- Steemit
SenseTime announced a partnership with Rockchip to produce an AI facial recognition chip, according to the company's official WeChat platform on August 15th. Based on the announcement, the AI unicorn's acial recognition SDK will be preloaded on the AI chip on Rochchip's affiliate chip production platform. SenseTime, founded in 2014, is one of the best-funded AI unicorns in China. Previously in June, SenseTime partnered with Xiaomi [1810:HK] to apply its facial recognition technology in Xiaomi's flagship smartphone Mi 8 Explorer. As early as in December 2017, powered by SenseTime's facial recognition technology, the Vivo X20 could be unlocked within 0.1 seconds, featuring the world's leading facial recognition technology.
New AI camera could revolutionize autonomous vehicles Stanford News
The image recognition technology that underlies today's autonomous cars and aerial drones depends on artificial intelligence: the computers essentially teach themselves to recognize objects like a dog, a pedestrian crossing the street or a stopped car. The problem is that the computers running the artificial intelligence algorithms are currently too large and slow for future applications like handheld medical devices. A Stanford-designed hybrid optical-electrical computer designed specifically for image analysis could be ideal for autonomous vehicles. Now, researchers at Stanford University have devised a new type of artificially intelligent camera system that can classify images faster and more energy efficiently, and that could one day be built small enough to be embedded in the devices themselves, something that is not possible today. The work was published in the August 17 Nature Scientific Reports.
AI & Blockchain: An Introduction
At the kind invitation of Rob May and the Botchain team, I had the opportunity recently to keynote Brains and Chains, an interesting conference in New York exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and blockchain. This is both an exciting and challenging topic, and the goal of my talk was to provide a broad introduction to kick things off, and frame the discussion for the rest of the day: discuss why the topic matters in the first place, and highlight the work of some interesting companies in the space. Defence Ministry to rope in industry to leverage Artificial Intelligence
The Defence Ministry will soon come up with a detailed roadmap on working closely with the industry on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) -- latest technology that emphasises on creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans -- in Armed Forces, said Ajay Kumar, Secretary, Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence. A task force, headed by Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran to study use and application of AI in military, recently gave its recommendations, which has been converted into a Draft Executive Order. Consultation is underway with different wings of the Defence Ministry on this, he said at a CII conference on Aerospace & Defence Manufacturing Technologies on the Theme: Fostering a Competitive, Innovative and Robust Industry. "AI is a big driver in all our platforms. We have already asked Defence PSUs to come up with suggestions as to where they can start leveraging in AI. Developing AI capabilities is absolutely essential part of leading the next generation innovation thrust," he said.
