Tinder's 'Top Picks' feature launches worldwide

Earlier this year, Tinder began testing out a feature that serves up a list of curated profiles for users who were willing to pay a few extra bucks each month. Now, the popular dating app has announced that the feature, called'Top Picks,' is now launching worldwide. However, it's only available for paying subscribers of Tinder Gold, which costs £7.49 Tinder announced that'Top Picks' is now available worldwide. Top Picks quietly launched in the US and UK last week, after it was tested in Germany, Brazil, France, Canada, Turkey, Mexico, Sweden, Russia and the Netherlands, according to TechCrunch.


AI is their paintbrush, but the artwork is no less human

Algorithmic art has been around as a distinct discipline for decades. Hungarian artist Vera Molnár created an early form of it back in the 1960s with computer drawings fashioned according to strict algorithmic rules. And American artist Roman Verostko created algorithmic art with The Magic Hand of Chance, non-repeating digital drawings created using BASIC on a first-generation IBM PC. But in a new exhibition called Gradient Descent--now on view at Nature Morte gallery in New Delhi--a group of curators, a gallerist, and seven artists are attempting to define, both aesthetically and conceptually, a more recent development in algorithmic creativity: art made by artificial intelligence. The brainchild of brothers Raghava KK and Karthik Kalyanaraman, alongside Nature Morte co-director Aparajita Jain, Gradient Descent features artworks made by seven international artists in collaboration with AI.


Molecules imagined using next-generation artificial intelligence validated experimentally

Tuesday, September 11th, Rockville, MD - Today, Insilico Medicine, Inc., a Rockville-based next-generation artificial intelligence company specializing in the application of deep learning for target identification, drug discovery and aging research announces the publication of a new research paper "Entangled Conditional Adversarial Autoencoder for de-novo Drug Discovery" in Molecular Pharmaceutics, the leading American Chemical Society journal covering research on the molecular mechanistic understanding of drug delivery and drug delivery systems. The authors presented an original deep neural network architecture, Entangled Conditional Adversarial Autoencoder (ECAAE), which generates molecular structures based on various properties such as activity against a specific protein, solubility, and ease of synthesis. ECAAE was used to generate a novel inhibitor of Janus Kinase 3 (JAK3), implicated in rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and vitiligo. The discovered molecule was tested in vitro and demonstrated high activity and selectivity. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) proposed by Ian Goodfellow and colleagues in 2014 and commonly referred to as AI imagination, are among the most exciting areas of AI research.

Robots will probably help care for you when you're old

The potential for deception is already here. A few years ago, Brent Lawson, the president of 1 AM Dolls, a manufacturer of life-sized rubber sex dolls, was on the phone with a client who wanted a specific doll he'd seen on the company's website. The man was particularly concerned that the doll's hair was just so, and peppered Lawson with questions about the color and style, Lawson told Quartz.


BMW launches a personal voice assistant for its cars

At TechCrunch Disrupt SF 2018, BMW today premiered its digital personal assistant for its cars, the aptly named BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. But you won't have to say "Hey, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant" to wake it up. You can give it any name you want. The announcement comes only a few weeks after BMW also launched its integration with Amazon's Alexa, but it's worth stressing that these are complementary technologies. BMW's own assistant is all about your car, while its partnerships with Amazon and also Microsoft enables other functions that aren't directly related to your driving experience.

Chip maker Intel Corp. bought Mobileye NV for $15.3 billion in March 2017, in part for the Israeli company's vision-based driver-assistance technology. In April, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. led a $600 million funding round in startup SenseTime Group Ltd., which specializes in facial- and image-recognition technology. The sensing and imaging market will grow about 10-fold to $18.5 billion by 2023, market-research firm Yole Développement forecasts.
