The web contains vast repositories of unstructured text. We investigate the opportunity for building a knowledge graph from these text sources. We generate a set of triples which can be used in knowledge gathering and integration. We define the architecture of a language compiler for processing subject-predicate-object triples using the OpenNLP parser. We implement a depth-first search traversal on the POS tagged syntactic tree appending predicate and object information. A parser enables higher precision and higher recall extractions of syntactic relationships across conjunction boundaries. We are able to extract 2-2.5 times the correct extractions of ReVerb. The extractions are used in a variety of semantic web applications and question answering. We verify extraction of 50,000 triples on the ClueWeb dataset.

Planetary Resources just took an unusual turn on its path to asteroid mining -- selling itself to a blockchain company founded by Ethereum's Joe Lubin. Planetary Resources' Brian Israel said that Blockchain was a "natural solution" for commerce in space and an ideal way for people from various countries to coordinate efforts. It also adds some crucial funding to the space mining company, which had recently laid off employees.

LG's robotics experiments range from wearable exoskeletons to airport guides and cleaners. Next up, it's starting work on a smart shopping cart that will follow customers around as they shop at Korea's largest supermarket chain, E-Mart. LG envisions it as a way to "free visitors from the hassle of pushing heavy carts by themselves" – which will come in handy for South Korea's ageing population and all manner of lazy customers in-between. The company previously revealed that the shopping cart would boast a built-in barcode scanner, as well as a display to keep tabs on your shopping list. A facial recognition system developed by NEC Corp. has been adopted for checking the entry of reporters at Tokyo Stadium and International Stadium Yokohama during the Rugby World Cup that Japan will host next year. Using identification cards for media organizations and face images of reporters registered beforehand, the system will complete authentication instantly, the Tokyo-based company said Monday. The system will allow smoother entry than with visual checks, NEC said. Reporters from all over the world are expected to visit Tokyo Stadium in Chofu, western Tokyo, the venue for the opening game, and International Stadium Yokohama, where the final will take place. This will be the first use of a face recognition system at a Rugby World Cup.
