Use Dimensionality Reduction and SVM Methods to Increase the Penetration Rate of Computer Networks
Moradibaad, Amir, Mashhoud, Ramin Jalilian
In the world today computer networks have a very important position and most of the urban and national infrastructure as well as organizations are managed by computer networks, therefore, the security of these systems against the planned attacks is of great importance. Therefore, researchers have been trying to find these vulnerabilities so that after identifying ways to penetrate the system, they will provide system protection through preventive or countermeasures. SVM is one of the major algorithms for intrusion detection. In this research, we studied a variety of malware and methods of intrusion detection, provide an efficient method for detecting attacks and utilizing dimension reduction. Thus, we will be able to detect attacks by carefully combining these two algorithms and pre-processes that are performed before the two on the input data. The main question raised is how we can identify attacks on computer networks with the above-mentioned method. In anomalies diagnostic method, by identifying behavior as a normal behavior for the user, the host, or the whole system, any deviation from this behavior is considered as an abnormal behavior, which can be a potential occurrence of an attack. The network intrusion detection system is used by anomaly detection method that uses the SVM algorithm for classification and SVD to reduce the size. Steps of the proposed method include pre-processing of the data set, feature selection, support vector machine, and evaluation. The NSL-KDD data set has been used to teach and test the proposed model. In this study, we inferred the intrusion detection using the SVM algorithm for classification and SVD for diminishing dimensions with no classification algorithm. Also the KNN algorithm has been compared in situations with and without diminishing dimensions, the results have shown that the proposed method has a better performance than comparable methods.
Interaction Design for Explainable AI: Workshop Proceedings
Madumal, Prashan, Singh, Ronal, Newn, Joshua, Vetere, Frank
As artificial intelligence (AI) systems become increasingly complex and ubiquitous, these systems will be responsible for making decisions that directly affect individuals and society as a whole. Such decisions will need to be justified due to ethical concerns as well as trust, but achieving this has become difficult due to the `black-box' nature many AI models have adopted. Explainable AI (XAI) can potentially address this problem by explaining its actions, decisions and behaviours of the system to users. However, much research in XAI is done in a vacuum using only the researchers' intuition of what constitutes a `good' explanation while ignoring the interaction and the human aspect. This workshop invites researchers in the HCI community and related fields to have a discourse about human-centred approaches to XAI rooted in interaction and to shed light and spark discussion on interaction design challenges in XAI.
Effectiveness of Hierarchical Softmax in Large Scale Classification Tasks
Mohammed, Abdul Arfat, Umaashankar, Venkatesh
Typically, Softmax is used in the final layer of a neural network to get a probability distribution for output classes. But the main problem with Softmax is that it is computationally expensive for large scale data sets with large number of possible outputs. To approximate class probability efficiently on such large scale data sets we can use Hierarchical Softmax. LSHTC datasets were used to study the performance of the Hierarchical Softmax. LSHTC datasets have large number of categories. In this paper we evaluate and report the performance of normal Softmax Vs Hierarchical Softmax on LSHTC datasets. This evaluation used macro f1 score as a performance measure. The observation was that the performance of Hierarchical Softmax degrades as the number of classes increase.
Same but Different: Distant Supervision for Predicting and Understanding Entity Linking Difficulty
Joรฃo, Renato Stoffalette, Fafalios, Pavlos, Dietze, Stefan
Entity Linking (EL) is the task of automatically identifying entity mentions in a piece of text and resolving them to a corresponding entity in a reference knowledge base like Wikipedia. There is a large number of EL tools available for different types of documents and domains, yet EL remains a challenging task where the lack of precision on particularly ambiguous mentions often spoils the usefulness of automated disambiguation results in real applications. A priori approximations of the difficulty to link a particular entity mention can facilitate flagging of critical cases as part of semi-automated EL systems, while detecting latent factors that affect the EL performance, like corpus-specific features, can provide insights on how to improve a system based on the special characteristics of the underlying corpus. In this paper, we first introduce a consensus-based method to generate difficulty labels for entity mentions on arbitrary corpora. The difficulty labels are then exploited as training data for a supervised classification task able to predict the EL difficulty of entity mentions using a variety of features. Experiments over a corpus of news articles show that EL difficulty can be estimated with high accuracy, revealing also latent features that affect EL performance. Finally, evaluation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method to inform semi-automated EL pipelines.

On 10 October 2017, the development of a Digital Agenda of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis) has started (Statistisches Bundesamt 2018). One of many topics that were intensively discussed was Machine Learning. In a meeting at 13-15 November 2017, the office and department heads of Destatis evaluated and prioritised 59 measures of the Digital Agenda according to their benefits and costs. A "Proof of Concept Machine Learning" was given high priority and classified as one of four lighthouse projects of the Digital Agenda. The content specification was "Proof of Concept Machine Learning - Set up Proof of Concept for Machine Learning, e.g. in business statistics, to perform automatic categorization and improve analysis potential". The deadline for completion of the project was set for mid-2018.

Fourier methods have a long and proven track record in as an excellent tool in data processing. We propose to integrate Fourier methods into complex recurrent neural network architectures and show accuracy improvements on analysis and prediction tasks as well as computational load reductions. We predict synthetic data drawn from the synthetic-Lorenz equations as well as real world human motion prediction. We demonstrate the setup's analysis capabilities on the task of music recognition.
Impact of Data Normalization on Deep Neural Network for Time Series Forecasting
For the last few years it has been observed that the Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) has achieved an excellent success in image classification, speech recognition. But DNNs are suffer great deal of challenges for time series forecasting because most of the time series data are nonlinear in nature and highly dynamic in behaviour. The time series forecasting has a great impact on our socio-economic environment. Hence, to deal with these challenges its need to be redefined the DNN model and keeping this in mind, data pre-processing, network architecture and network parameters are need to be consider before feeding the data into DNN models. Data normalization is the basic data pre-processing technique form which learning is to be done. The effectiveness of time series forecasting is heavily depend on the data normalization technique. In this paper, different normalization methods are used on time series data before feeding the data into the DNN model and we try to find out the impact of each normalization technique on DNN to forecast the time series. Here the Deep Recurrent Neural Network (DRNN) is used to predict the closing index of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) by using BSE and NYSE time series data.
On Stacked Denoising Autoencoder based Pre-training of ANN for Isolated Handwritten Bengali Numerals Dataset Recognition
Chowdhury, Al Mehdi Saadat, Rahman, M. Shahidur, Khanom, Asia, Chowdhury, Tamanna Islam, Uddin, Afaz
This work attempts to find the most optimal parameter setting of a deep artificial neural network (ANN) for Bengali digit dataset by pre-training it using stacked denoising autoencoder (SDA). Although SDA based recognition is hugely popular in image, speech and language processing related tasks among the researchers, it was never tried in Bengali dataset recognition. For this work, a dataset of 70000 handwritten samples were used from (Chowdhury and Rahman, 2016) and was recognized using several settings of network architecture. Among all these settings, the most optimal setting being found to be five or more deeper hidden layers with sigmoid activation and one output layer with softmax activation. We proposed the optimal number of neurons that can be used in the hidden layer is 1500 or more. The minimum validation error found from this work is 2.34% which is the lowest error rate on handwritten Bengali dataset proposed till date.
