The idea of'Automata' originates from the mythologies of many cultures across the globe. Early inventors and engineers from ancient civilisation such as Greek, Chinese or Ptolemaic Egyptian attempted to develop a self-operating or automated machine resembling humans and animals. The term'Robot' comes from the Czech word "Robota" refers to "Forced Work or Labor" which was first used to refer the word'Artificial Automata' in a 1920 play R.U.R (Rossum's Universal Robots) by the Czech interwar writer'Karl Capek.' In 1928, one of the first'Humanoid Robots' invented by W.H.Richards, delivered a speech in the annual event of the'Model Engineers Society' in London. The brief history shows that'Robots' are not a new innovation but is a'Thinking Machine' which is programmed by a computer and is capable of doing complex series' of actions automatically.

What would you do if you had a machine to catch a thief? If you were a corrupt Chinese bureaucrat, you would want to ditch it, of course. Resistance by government officials to a groundbreaking big data experiment is only one of many challenges as the Chinese government starts using new technology to navigate its giant bureaucracy. According to state media, there were more than 50 million people on China's government payroll in 2016, though analysts have put the figure at more than 64 million – slightly less than the population of Britain. To turn this behemoth into a seamless operation befitting the information age, China has started adapting various types of sophisticated technology.
Transforming Big Data Processing Through Blockchain and AI
Big data is currently on everybody's lips with stringent regulations the order of the day and security breaches happening on a regular basis. A company called Endor has come up with a blockchain and AI based solution to manage and process data. After years of research at MIT, Endor claims to have invented the "Google for predictive analytics*", providing automated AI predictions for companies. Endor can process Encrypted Data, without ever decrypting it, on and off blockchain and it enables business users to ask predictive questions and get automated accurate predictions. No data science expertise is required.
Ministry backing development of AI program to help diabetics improve daily habits, diet
The industry ministry is supporting the development of an artificial intelligence program designed to help diabetics improve their dietary and other daily habits to prevent their condition from worsening, sources have said. The ministry hopes to collect data about some 2,000 diabetics whose condition is very bad by year-end through a clinical trial in cooperation with the Japan Diabetes Society. The data, including weights and the numbers of steps taken, will serve as high-quality training data for AI development. Training data are an initial set of information with which computers learn how to reach appropriate answers. A clinical research-linked project to collect such data from so many diabetics is unprecedented around the world, according to sources, including a ministry executive.
AI Can Easily Break Text CAPTCHA
A new study suggests that text-based CAPTCHAs are no longer safe. Researchers from Northwest University and Peking University in China, and Lancaster University in the U.K., say they developed a machine learning algorithm that can crack most text-based CAPTCHAs within 0.05 seconds. Northwest University's Fang Dingyi said the algorithm exhibited a more than 50% success rate on decoding text-based CAPTCHA schemes used by 50 popular websites within that timeframe. The tool uses a generative adversarial network that teaches a CAPTCHA generator program to produce large numbers of CAPTCHAs to train a solver. Said Fang, "This research suggests one can easily launch an attack on a new CAPTCHA scheme using [artificial intelligence]. It means that this first defense of many websites is no longer reliable."
Budget 2019: AI to drive country forward - ETtech
In a move designed to further the government's digital initiative, the union finance minister announced plans to digitize over one lakh villages, focus on Artificial Intelligence technologies and transform the country as a hub for smartphone and electric vehicle manufacturing. Finance Minister Piyush Goyal said that the country's digital infrastructure and economy by 2030 will be built on the work done in digitisation of government processes and private transactions. As part of this move, the government plans to make One lakh villages into Digital Villages over next five years with the help of Common Service Centres (CSCs), public private initiative that offer digital services to villagers.. Goyal said it is the government's vision to create a Digital India that reaches all sectors of the economy, all parts of the country and impacts lives of all Indians. "Our youth will lead us in this endeavour with innumerable start-ups creating digital India, and millions of jobs in this eco-system," said Goyal in his Interim Budget speech. The monthly consumption of mobile data increased by over 50 times in the last five years, and the cost of data and voice calls in India is now possibly the lowest in the world.
UK an artificial intelligence jobs leader
Boasting 37.3 jobs per million people, the UK is a world leader for careers in artificial intelligence (AI). That's behind just Japan and Israel, at 44.7 and 38.7 respectively, while the US takes fourth place with 36.3 jobs. Those stats come courtesy of research by RPA (Robotic Process Automation) company UiPath which, based on job listings from startup hubs around the world, explores the countries and cities hiring the most staff in the burgeoning fields of AI and machine learning (ML). When it comes to total jobs in those fields, the UK currently holds 1,547. Rather expectedly, that puts it behind China (12,113), the US (7,465), and Japan (3,369).

Etihad and Microsoft team up to launch region's first AI academy Tourism News Live
Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, has announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft to launch the first ever in-house AI Academy in the region, which will revolutionise the way the airline serves its customers by upskilling its workforce, optimising operations and creating alternate revenue streams. As part of the AI Academy, all Etihad employees will be given access to an online training programme, and instructor led classes, to drive companywide AI literacy, empowering every employee to deliver more value to the company and its customers. Microsoft specialists will also conduct a series of AI business workshops and hands-on technical lab sessions to help identify business challenges that can be optimised with AI. Etihad is currently embarking on a digital transformation journey in order to enhance the capacity and quality of its services to the almost 20 million passengers it carries each year. "There is a simple reason that we are long-term partners with Microsoft – we think alike," said, Tony Douglas Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Aviation Group.
DeepMind's superhuman AI is rewriting how we play chess
Since 1997, when IBM's Deep Blue beat world champion and chess legend Garry Kasparov in a six-game match, chess players have accepted that machines are stronger at chess. We have taken some comfort from the fact that we taught these machines how to play. But strangely enough, despite being programmed by humans, traditional chess engines don't play quite like humans. Despite the hand-crafted heuristics, the fundament of an engine's superiority lies in calculation: sifting through vast numbers of moves to find concrete ways to solve a position. Back then, chess grandmasters were hired in to evaluate a series of typical positions and describe the considerations that led to the assessment, and then programmers turned these considerations into ever more sophisticated heuristics.
