Learn #MachineLearning Coding Basics in a weekend – a new approach to coding for #AI

#artificialintelligence

Although we said'in a weekend' we will give you a week to complete starting this weekend It is also associated with a diverse range of people including Golf (Ben Hogan), Shaolin Monks, Benjamin Franklin etc. This means we don't need any installation (it's completely web-based) We will guide you through two end-to-end machine learning problems that can be taken over one weekend. We will introduce you to important machine learning concepts, such as machine learning workflow, defining the problem statement, pre-processing and understanding our data, building baseline and more sophisticated models, and evaluating models. We will also introduce to keep machine learning libraries in python and demonstrate code that can be used on your own problems. We will cover data exploration in pandas, look at how to evaluate performance in numpy, plot our findings in Matplotlib, and build our models in sci-kit learn.

Five Times Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy Championed AI

#artificialintelligence

As political parties gear up for the 2019 general elections, Analytics India Magazine walks down the memory lane and takes stock of the times when leaders were quite gracious in praising and educating the mass about the importance of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning. After his tumultuous election win, the Janata Dal (Secular) supremo, HD Kumaraswamy has stepped into the shoes of his predecessor with ease in Karnataka. In fact, Kumaraswamy has been quite vocal about the role of AI in shaping the future of the state's economy. On turning the state capital into a global innovation hub: With the government playing a crucial role in bringing various stakeholders from across the country under one roof, state-sponsored Bengaluru Tech Summit has played a vital role in ushering innovation and impact. While addressing a press meet the CM said, "Bengaluru has emerged as one of the global innovation hubs in the league of Tokyo in Japan, Silicon Valley in the US and Tel Aviv in Israel. The summit will provide a platform for knowledge sharing on emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Blockchain," Kumaraswamy said.

New Russian video game lets you experience the mundanity of life in a post-Soviet tower block

The Independent - Tech

A new immersive video game that lets players experience the humdrum banality of living in a suburban Russian tower block is proving an unexpected hit, despite having no clear plot. Created by game developer Alexander Ignatov and poet Ilia Mazo, It's Winter takes place in a nondescript neighbourhood of an unnamed town and limits players to the type of activities such an environment inspires. A lack of in-game missions mean players can instead choose how they want to pass their time – from making a meal of eggs and potatoes, to taking out the bins. We'll tell you what's true. You can form your own view.

Police detain 10 teenagers in India for playing banned video game

The Guardian

Police in the western Indian state of Gujarat detained 10 teenagers for breaking a newly announced ban on playing the online video game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) – the forerunner of global smash Fortnite. The ban was announced last week by local authorities to combat what they called the spread of "violent traits" in kids playing the game. The detained teenagers were taken into custody but later released with a warning, said Manoj Agrawal, police commissioner of Rajkot city in Gujarat on Thursday. "Due to these games, the education of children and youth are being affected and it affects the behaviour, manners, speech and development of the youth and children," an order by local police dated 6 March said. Police in Gujarat have not banned Fortnite, a popular rival to PUBG developed by US-based Epic Games.

Google employee breaks world record for calculating Pi to 3.14 trillion digits

The Independent - Tech

A Google employee has broken the Guinness World Record for calculating pi to the most number of digits, just in time for Pi Day on 14 March – or 3.14. Pi – the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter – is an irrational number, meaning there's no end to how many digits can be calculated. We'll tell you what's true. You can form your own view. The engineer said it had been her dream since she was a child to break the world record for Pi.

Humans are less motivated when working with robots

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Robots demoralise their human colleagues leaving them'disheartened' and less motivated, a new study has revealed. Automatons are increasingly replacing people in workplaces where simple jobs can easily be done almost for free by replacing costly staff. Engineers designed a game pitting man vs machine to measure the effect of this process, and found people lost heart the longer the game went on. Humans who played the game against robots for cash prizes became demoralised because they were beaten so badly that they saw themselves as less competent. Humans who played a game against robots for cash prizes became demoralised because they found themselves less competent.

Bafta games awards 2019: God of War leads nominations

The Guardian

Sony Santa Monica's God of War has received 10 nominations for this year's Bafta game awards, leading a diverse pack of nominees. Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2 also picked up six nominations, as did Florence – a game about a relationship played from the perspective of a young woman – and Return of the Obra Dinn, a lo-fi monochrome mystery set on an abandoned ship. The contenders for best game are Assassin's Creed Odyssey, PlayStation VR game Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Celeste, God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Return of the Obra Dinn. Last year's winner was What Became of Edith Finch, an emotionally charged magical-realist game about the fate of an ill-fortuned family. The games beyond entertainment category, introduced to recognise games whose impact extends into the real world, comprises Celeste, Aardman Studios' first world war game 11-11 Memories Retold, Life is Strange 2, My Child Lebensborn, and Nintendo Labo.

How intelligent is artificial intelligence?

#artificialintelligence

Researchers from TU Berlin, Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) have tackled this question and have provided a glimpse into the diverse "intelligence" spectrum observed in current AI systems, specifically analyzing these AI systems with a novel technology that allows automatized analysis and quantification. The most important prerequisite for this novel technology is a method developed earlier by TU Berlin and Fraunhofer HHI, the so-called Layer-wise Relevance Propagation (LRP) algorithm that allows visualizing according to which input variables AI systems make their decisions. Extending LRP, the novel Spectral relevance analysis (SpRAy) can identify and quantify a wide spectrum of learned decision making behavior. In this manner it has now become possible to detect undesirable decision making even in very large data sets. This so-called'explainable AI' has been one of the most important steps towards a practical application of AI, according to Dr. Klaus-Robert Müller, Professor for Machine Learning at TU Berlin.

Ten big global challenges technology could solve

MIT Technology Review

Carbon sequestration Cutting greenhouse-gas emissions alone won't be enough to prevent sharp increases in global temperatures. We'll also need to remove vast amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, which not only would be incredibly expensive but would present us with the thorny problem of what to do with all that CO2. A growing number of startups are exploring ways of recycling carbon dioxide into products, including synthetic fuels, polymers, carbon fiber, and concrete. That's promising, but what we'll really need is a cheap way to permanently store the billions of tons of carbon dioxide that we might have to pull out of the atmosphere. Grid-scale energy storage Renewable energy sources like wind and solar are becoming cheap and more widely deployed, but they don't generate electricity when the sun's not shining or wind isn't blowing. That limits how much power these sources can supply, and how quickly we can move away from steady sources like coal and natural gas.
