Exploiting Persona Information for Diverse Generation of Conversational Responses

In human conversations, due to their personalities in mind, people can easily carry out and maintain the conversations. Giving conversational context with persona information to a chatbot, how to exploit the information to generate diverse and sustainable conversations is still a non-trivial task. Previous work on persona-based conversational models successfully make use of predefined persona information and have shown great promise in delivering more realistic responses. And they all learn with the assumption that given a source input, there is only one target response. However, in human conversations, there are massive appropriate responses to a given input message. In this paper, we propose a memory-augmented architecture to exploit persona information from context and incorporate a conditional variational autoencoder model together to generate diverse and sustainable conversations. We evaluate the proposed model on a benchmark persona-chat dataset. Both automatic and human evaluations show that our model can deliver more diverse and more engaging persona-based responses than baseline approaches.

The U.S. and China are locked in an increasingly heated struggle for superpower status. Many perceived this confrontation initially only through the lenses of a trade war. For Huawei and China, as well as for the world, consequences are far reaching, as, after Google "stopping Huawei's Android license", and an Intel and Qualcomm ban, the British chip designer ARM, held notably by Japanese Softbank, now stops relations with Huawei (Paul Sandle, "ARM supply halt deals fresh blow to Chinese tech giant Huawei", Reuters, 22 May 2019; "DealBook Briefing: The Huawei Backlash Goes Global", The New York Times, 23 May 2019; Tom Warren, "Huawei's Android And Windows Alternatives Are Destined For Failure", The Verge, 23 May 2019). The highly possible coming American move against Chinese Hikvision, one of the largest world producers of video surveillance systems involving notably "artificial intelligence, speech monitoring and genetic testing" would only further confirm the American offensive (Doina Chiacu, Stella Qi, "Trump says'dangerous' Huawei could be included in U.S.-China trade deal", Reuters, 23 May 2019; Ana Swanson and Edward Wong, "Trump Administration Could Blacklist China's Hikvision, a Surveillance Firm", The New York Times, 21 May 2019). China, for its part, answers to both the trade war and the technological fight with an ideologically martial mobilisation of its population along the lines of "People's War", "The Long March", and changing TV scheduling to broadcast war films (Iris Zhao and Alan Weedon, "Chinese television suddenly switches scheduling to anti-American films amid US-China trade war", ABC News, 20 May 2019; Michael Martina, David Lawder, "Prepare for difficult times, China's Xi urges as trade war simmers", Reuters, 22 May 2019). This highlights how much is as stake for the Middle Kingdom, as we explained previously ( Sensor and Actuator (4): Artificial Intelligence, the Long March towards Advanced Robots and Geopolitics).

Arm reveals new CPU, GPU, and machine learning processor for 5G world – Tech Check News

Above: Arm wants to make 5G computing as fast as it can be. Arm introduced new versions of its designs for heavy-duty central processing units (CPUs), graphics chips, and machine learning chips. The company made the announcement at the Computex tech trade show in Taiwan. The Cambridge, England-based company announced the Arm Cortex-A77 CPU, the Arm Mali-G77 graphics processing unit (GPU), and the Arm Machine Learning processor. We are a group of artists, musicians and programmers that wanted explore human creativity and challenge it. We have created a Eurovision AI song that celebrates Eurovision – its melodrama, kitsch and camp, its humor and its gimmicks. The result is comprised entirely of material written and composed by Artificial Intelligence, titled "Blue Jeans & Bloody Tears". The project team fed hundreds of Eurovision songs – melodies and lyrics – into a neuron network.


Government mulls algorithm boost to farm insurance payouts

The Union agriculture ministry is looking at algorithms to fix delays in paying farmers their claims under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), a major issue hobbling the flagship crop insurance scheme. The government is experimenting with big data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to quicken assessment of crop damage, a lengthy and often disputed mechanism, people familiar with the matter said. If the PMFBY is to achieve its most critical goal -- timely payouts to farmers -- it can't fly without a raft of high-end technological fixes, experts say. Analysing the scheme's design in his recent work'Supporting Indian Farms the Smart Way', economist Ashok Gulati predicted that, for prompt crop insurance settlement, India could even need a fleet of cloud-penetrating satellites for faster crop-loss estimates. Setting up such a constellation would likely cost Rs 2,000 crore, according to Gulati's calculations.
