This chatbot is helping HR identify unhappy employees before they quit
Unhappy employees are found in every workplace and it is a continuous challenge for every office to identify them and then address their issues. The disgruntled employee is one of the top worries for every business leader, but dealing with them is still much of an art and very less science. Pushing the envelope, companies are now using bots to analyse people's expressions and tone to determine traits such as confidence and happiness in order to help HRs identify confident candidates during interviews. Apart from calling the shots at hiring, AI-enabled bots are also fulfilling the roles of a companion. One such chatbot named Amber has now become a confidante of office employees who are comfortably sharing their work problems with it.

AI Summit Singapore
When The AI Summit launched in 2015 it shifted the focus of AI conferences from research & academia to practical implementation for enterprise business use across the globe. This revolutionary new take lead rapidly to major partnerships including the likes of Amazon, Facebook, Google, IBM Watson, Intel, Microsoft, and many more helping events to spread from London, to Cape Town, New York, San Francisco, Singapore, and Tokyo. In 2017, The AI Summit packed out 8 completely sold-out conferences and exhibitions uniting over 9000 delegates globally from an array of major organisations who explored the routes to an AI-powered future. Since then, the The AI Summit series has continued to grow with even more provoking and exciting shows in 2019 including Cape Town, Hong Kong, London, New York, San Francisco, and Singapore.
Humans Don't Realize How Biased They Are Until AI Reproduces the Same Bias, Says UNESCO AI Chair
While machine learning today is dominated by deep neural network research, in the 1990s neural approaches were not recognized as reliable for real-world applications. Back then, researchers put their efforts into kernel methods and support vector machines (SVM). One of the most notable and respected contributors to kernel methods and SVM is John Shawe-Taylor, a professor at University College London (UK) and Director of the Centre for Computational Statistics and Machine Learning (CSML). His main research area is Statistical Learning Theory, but his contributions range from neural networks to machine learning and graph theory. Shawe-Taylor has published over 300 papers with over 42000 citations.
How AI is letting scientists listen in on animal chatter Microsoft On The Issues
The fictional character of Dr. Dolittle has captured the imagination of millions of children with his ability to talk to animals – and now the idea of using technology to listen to and better understand animals is capturing the imagination of AI experts around the world. For example, AI language-analysis technology is being used to decode the sounds of bottlenose dolphins and compile a dictionary of dolphin language. This work is taking place on a global scale, across a vast variety of species. Researchers are using technology to gather data that could address some of the biggest environmental challenges of our time, including some with grants from Microsoft's AI for Earth program helping achieve their goals. Here is a snapshot of some of the projects underway – and what they hope to achieve.
Meet Africa's Inclusive AI Community Solving Global Problems - The Rockefeller Foundation
This week more than 700 machine learning researchers from over 30 African countries will come together at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya for the third annual Deep Learning Indaba. On paper it looks a lot like other artificial intelligence (AI) convenings around the world. There are keynotes from luminaries, talks from up-and-coming researchers, and trainings on new methods. But as we've worked with the Indaba organizers to sponsor the event over the last few months, we've learned that the Indaba represents so much more: First, the Indaba is a hub and catalyst for Africa's growing AI community. At The Rockefeller Foundation, we know that supporting communities of dedicated engineers can change the world.
Using machine learning to accelerate ecological research
The DeepMind Science Team works to leverage AI to tackle key scientific challenges that impact the world. We've developed a robust model for detecting and analysing animal populations in field data, and have helped to consolidate data to enable the growing machine learning community in Africa to build AI systems for conservation which, we hope, will scale to other parks. We'll next be validating our models by deploying them in the field and tracking their progress. Our hope is to contribute towards making AI research more inclusive–both in terms of the kinds of domains we apply it to, and the people developing it. Hence, participating in meetings like Indaba are key for helping build a global team of AI practitioners who can deploy machine learning for diverse projects.
