Machines on the trail, beware human fraudsters!

#artificialintelligence

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) recently hosted a session on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in fraud detection. Participants of the session listened to Hatem Elsafty, partner at Mazars-Qatar. Marwan Arab AI & Machine Learning Architect with Mazars presented case studies with the'Artificial Intelligence Fraud Fight Platform (AIFF)' developed by Mazars with Pandata, provides predictive and forensic intelligence solutions for fraud detection. During the session, Elsafty explained the concept of fraud, artificial intelligence, and machine learning using real-life examples and scenarios. "We are living in an era of advanced technologies that changed the way we do business. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the use of Big Data are two of the leading technologies that provided useful business applications to automate and significantly support the reduction of fraud and corruption," said Elsafty.

Elephants Under Attack Have An Unlikely Ally: Artificial Intelligence

There are two kinds of elephants in Africa: the forest elephant and the savanna elephant (above), photographed this past spring in Liwonde National Park in Malawi. The Great Elephant Census found that Africa's savanna elephant population decreased by about a third in the seven years between 2007 and 2014. There are two kinds of elephants in Africa: the forest elephant and the savanna elephant (above), photographed this past spring in Liwonde National Park in Malawi. The Great Elephant Census found that Africa's savanna elephant population decreased by about a third in the seven years between 2007 and 2014. A few years ago, Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft, published the results of something called the Great Elephant Census, which counted all the savanna elephants in Africa. What it found rocked the conservation world: In the seven years between 2007 and 2014, Africa's savanna elephant population decreased by about a third and was on track to disappear completely from some African countries in as few as 10 years. To reverse that trend, researchers landed on a technology that is rewriting the rules for everything from our household appliances to our cars: artificial intelligence. AI's ability to find patterns in enormous volumes of information is demystifying not just elephant behavior but human behavior -- specifically poacher behavior -- too.

Video game review: 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare' plays out as a successful mission

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" accomplishes its mission on multiple fronts with a compelling and dramatic single-player story campaign. Firstly, the video game (out Oct. 25 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PCs, rated Mature for ages 17-up) lives up to its namesake, "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare," the 2007 game that helped launch the video game franchise towards its stratospheric station as a perennial multibillion-dollar seller. The non-stop action spans the globe and keeps the player guessing where the story is headed. And, the story campaign alone suggests "Call of Duty" will continue the series' successful run โ€“ it's been the top-selling game each of the last ten years and topped $1 billion in sales annually for the last 15 years. This one has a special coop mode and a 2-vs.-2

Abu Dhabi launches world's first University of Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Abu Dhabi is gearing up for the next phase in advances in science and technology by announcing plans to open the world's first University of Artificial Intelligence. Academic experts and businesspeople from China, America and the UK will help to steer the state-of-the-art institute when the campus officially opens to graduate students in Masdar City in September 2020. Abu Dhabi made the announcement as part of a national strategy set up in 2017 that makes Artificial Intelligence the centrepiece of the UAE's focus on developing a "knowledge-based economy". The university has partnered with the Abu Dhabi-based Inception Institute of Artificial Intelligence, who will advise on the academic curriculum. The university has also been named after the capital's political leader, crown prince sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Enterprise Computing Conference (23d edition) - Sciencesconf.org

Abstract: The phenomenal growth of social media, mobile applications, sensor based technologies and the Internet of Things is generating a flood of "Big Data" and disrupting our world in many ways. Simultaneously, we are seeing many interesting developments in machine learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and methods. In this talk I will examine the paradigm shift caused by recent developments in AI and Big Data and ways to harness their power to create a smarter enterprise computing environment. Using examples from health care, smart cities, education, and businesses in general, I will highlight challenges and research opportunities for developing an enterprise of the future. Bio: Sudha Ram is Anheuser-Busch Endowed Professor of MIS, Entrepreneurship & Innovation in the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona.

Google's Raspberry Pi-like Coral: AI board with TPU is ready for business ZDNet

#artificialintelligence

Google is now ready to release its Coral developer board globally after completing improvements throughout its six-month beta period. Google unveiled its Coral edge kit in March, offering developers a Raspberry Pi-like board with an attachable Google Edge TPU machine-learning accelerator. The kit is aimed at engineers and researchers who want to run TensorFlow models at the edge of a network, outside the data center. The Coral Dev Board itself costs $149, which includes a detachable Coral system-on-module (SoM) that can now be bought as a standalone product for $114. The SoM includes Google's Edge TPU with the NXP IMX8M SoC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, memory, and storage.

Kenyan insurers utilizing artificial intelligence to curb fraud cases

#artificialintelligence

Insurers are now utilizing artificial intelligence to curb fraud cases in their motor insurance claim processes. Deloitte's Insurance Outlook Report 2019/2020 East Africa showed that while motor private and medical business classes are the largest classes, they are also among the most loss-making businesses. The report urges insurers to explore other emerging business classes that have a potential for growth to diversify their business mix. With over 25% of Kenya's insurance industry income fraudulently claimed, Kenindia Assurance is one of the insures who have taken steps to curb the fraud. Kenindia Assurance, Deputy General Manager Joyce Mathenge says that motor insurance is the main contributor to insurance fraud and hence the need to develop mechanisms to lower their risks.
