Emteq designs sensor-laden wearable devices capable of tracking facial expression, which are interpreted by the company's AI platform to gauge emotional responses. AudEERING, meanwhile, is an audio analysis firm that uses machine intelligence and deep learning techniques to determine the emotional state of the speaker. The'smart' glasses will combine Emteq's hardware and emotion-tracking technology with an AI model developed by audEERING said to be capable of detecting vocal changes associated with Parkinson's Disease.

"You've got a perfect storm, really," says Rose Luckin, a professor at University College London who has studied AIEd for the past 20 years. "You can do things that you weren't able to do before." AIEd now helps investigate the steps students go through when learning subjects from calculus to chemistry, shining a light on what individual learners need to progress. To get there, an AI program is first trained on hundreds or thousands of students' work, gaining a knowledge base of the common areas that give learners trouble. Then over time, as an individual uses the system, the AI homes in on specifics to focus on, usually offering bespoke lessons to brush up on skills, and, in some cases, offer pep talks through bots.

MIT researchers have developed a New Artificial Intelligence (AI) System named as " PixelPlayer" that can look at a video of a musical performance, and isolate the sounds of specific instruments and make them louder or softer. The system, which is "self-supervised," doesn't require any human annotations on what the instruments are or what they sound like.The researchers say that the ability to change the volume of individual instruments means that in the future, systems like this could potentially help engineers improve the audio quality of old concert footage. You could even imagine producers taking specific instrument parts and previewing what they would sound like with other instruments. The system first locates the image regions that produce sounds, and then separates the input sounds into a set of components that represent the sound from each pixel. PixelPlayer uses methods of "deep learning," meaning that it finds patterns in data using so-called "neural networks" that have been trained on existing videos.
When implementing the ResNet architecture in a deep learning project I was working on, it was a huge leap from the basic, simple convolutional neural networks I was used to. One prominent feature of ResNet is that it utilizes a micro-architecture within it's larger macroarchitecture: residual blocks! I decided to look into the model myself to gain a better understanding of it, as well as look into why it was so successful at ILSVRC. I implemented the exact same ResNet model class in Deep Learning for Computer Vision with Python by Dr. Adrian Rosebrock , which followed the ResNet model from the 2015 ResNet academic publication, Deep Residual Learning for Image Recognition by He et al. . When ResNet was first introduced, it was revolutionary for proving a new solution to a huge problem for deep neural networks at the time: the vanishing gradient problem.
The Army envisions acquiring technologies that use machine learning to autonomously detect and address software vulnerabilities and network misconfigurations – routine mistakes that could offer attackers an entry point onto its systems. Another reason organizations are turning to AI-powered cyber defenses: to counter the threat posed by intelligent cyber weapons. In February 2018, a group of more than two dozen researchers representing the Washington-based Center for a New American Security, the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and nonprofit organizations including the Electronic Frontier Foundation and OpenAI, issued a groundbreaking report warning that AI technologies could amplify the destructive power available to nation-states and criminal enterprises. The report outlines dozens of ways attackers could use artificial intelligence to their advantage, from generating automated spear-phishing attacks capable of reliably fooling their human targets, to triggering ransomware attacks using voice or facial recognition, to designing malware that mimics normal user behavior to evade detection. Building on its previous research with Neural Architecture Search (NAS), the team used NAS cells to automatically build new machine learning models for tasks specific to self-driving, and transferred CIFAR-10 model learning results directly to the system. The team then set up an automatic search algorithm to enable different NAS cell combinations with convolutional neural networks (CNN) for training and evaluating of suitable models for LiDAR point identification segmentation tasks.
