JetBrains adds IDE to help data scientists build AI models in Python

The Transform Technology Summits start October 13th with Low-Code/No Code: Enabling Enterprise Agility. JetBrains this week revealed it has extended its family of integrated development environments (IDEs) for programming languages to include one for data scientists who use Python code to create AI models. Available under an early access program, JetBrains DataSpell promises an enhanced experience compared to the traditional Jupyter notebooks most data scientists rely on to write and manage code, project manager Andrey Cheptsov told VentureBeat. The goal is to boost data scientists' overall productivity at a time when enterprise IT organizations are launching many more AI projects to either reduce costs or increase revenue within the context of a digital business transformation initiative, Cheptsov added. JetBrains DataSpell accomplishes this goal by making it easier to navigate data without getting in the way of writing code, Cheptsov said.


Python in 2021: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

In this post, I want to look at the biggest strengths and weaknesses of Python, with more emphasis on the weaknesses, just because these problems have been there for years now and some of the rough edges bleed a lot. Python is now the number one choice for many fields--beginners learning programming, machine learning, data science, and its poor ugly cousin, data engineering (which includes cleaning up data, extracting data and putting in an easy to read format etc). For some fields, Python isn't Number One, but it is a strong contender. One startup I worked at was using Powershell and C to do its automation, and this led to fistfights until I graciously intervened and announced we were going to use Python instead (I may be exaggerating, but you get the idea). If you are doing anything on Linux servers, chances are, if the script is more than a few hundred lines, most people will prefer Python over Bash. At one company, reviewers would start moaning over any bash script over 20 lines; and I don't blame them.

Bodo.ai secures $14M, aims to make Python better at handling large-scale data – TechCrunch

Bodo.ai, a parallel compute platform for data workloads, is developing a compiler to make Python portable and efficient across multiple hardware platforms. It announced Wednesday a $14 million Series A funding round led by Dell Technologies Capital. Python is one of the top programming languages used among artificial intelligence and machine learning developers and data scientists, but as Behzad Nasre, co-founder and CEO of Bodo.ai, points out, it is challenging to use when handling large-scale data. Bodo.ai, headquartered in San Francisco, was founded in 2019 by Nasre and Ehsan Totoni, CTO, to make Python higher performing and production ready. Nasre, who had a long career at Intel before starting Bodo, met Totoni and learned about the project that he was working on to democratize machine learning and enable parallel learning for everyone.
