Click here to join the seminar. Research on machine learning (ML) algorithms, as well as on their ethical impacts, has focused largely on mathematical or computational questions. However, for algorithmic systems to be useful, reliable, and safe for human users, ML research must also wrangle with how users' psychology and social context affect how they interact with algorithms. This talk will address how novel research on how people interact with ML systems can benefit from decades-old ideas in social science. The first part of the talk will address how well-worn ideas from psychology and behavioral research methods can inform how ML researchers develop and evaluate algorithmic systems.
Every day, the company fields searches on topics like suicide, sexual assault, and domestic abuse. But Google wants to do more to direct people to the information they need, and says new AI techniques that better parse the complexities of language are helping. Specifically, Google is integrating its latest machine learning model, MUM, into its search engine to "more accurately detect a wider range of personal crisis searches." The company unveiled MUM at its IO conference last year, and has since used it to augment search with features that try to answer questions connected to the original search. In this case, MUM will be able to spot search queries related to difficult personal situations that earlier search tools could not, says Anne Merritt, a Google product manager for health and information quality.
Have you ever wondered when you are searching for something, how did the search engine know what I am searching for this fast? Google's search engine isn't just a line of logic and cookies, Google's search algorithm incorporates machine learning, Artificial intelligence, and natural language processing to improve search every day. For search results to be accurate, Google uses an AI algorithm that can understand what the user is trying to say when they make the search query. This algorithm was launched by Google in October 2015, six years ago. I will discuss in this article how AI got its start, the difference between AI, machine learning, and deep learning, how did AI affect Google's search engine forever, and what google's RankBrain and beyond is all about.

We will split our dataset into two parts: training and evaluation. From each class, we will randomly sample 20 images and create an evaluation set out of it. The remaining images will be part of the training set.
The relevance of the video is that the browser identified the application being used by the IAI as Google Earth and, according to the OSC 2006 report, the Arabic-language caption reads Islamic Army in Iraq/The Military Engineering Unit – Preparations for Rocket Attack, the video was recorded in 5/1/2006, we provide, in Appendix A, a reproduction of the screenshot picture made available in the OSC report. Now, prior to the release of this video demonstration of the use of Google Earth to plan attacks, in accordance with the OSC 2006 report, in the OSC-monitored online forums, discussions took place on the use of Google Earth as a GEOINT tool for terrorist planning. On August 5, 2005 the user "Al-Illiktrony" posted a message to the Islamic Renewal Organization forum titled A Gift for the Mujahidin, a Program To Enable You to Watch Cities of the World Via Satellite, in this post the author dedicated Google Earth to the mujahidin brothers and to Shaykh Muhammad al-Mas'ari, the post was replied in the forum by "Al-Mushtaq al-Jannah" warning that Google programs retain complete information about their users. This is a relevant issue, however, there are two caveats, given the amount of Google Earth users, it may be difficult for Google to flag a jihadist using the functionality in time to prevent an attack plan, one possible solution would be for Google to flag computers based on searched websites and locations, for instance to flag computers that visit certain critical sites, but this is a problem when landmarks are used, furthermore, and this is the second caveat, one may not use one's own computer to produce the search or even mask the IP address. On October 3, 2005, as described in the OSC 2006 report, in a reply to a posting by Saddam Al-Arab on the Baghdad al-Rashid forum requesting the identification of a roughly sketched map, "Almuhannad" posted a link to a site that provided a free download of Google Earth, suggesting that the satellite imagery from Google's service could help identify the sketch.
Sim2real transfer is primarily concerned with transferring policies trained in simulation to potentially noisy real world environments. A common problem associated with sim2real transfer is estimating the real-world environmental parameters to ground the simulated environment to. Although existing methods such as Domain Randomisation (DR) can produce robust policies by sampling from a distribution of parameters during training, there is no established method for identifying the parameters of the corresponding distribution for a given real-world setting. In this work, we propose Uncertainty-aware policy search (UncAPS), where we use Universal Policy Network (UPN) to store simulation-trained task-specific policies across the full range of environmental parameters and then subsequently employ robust Bayesian optimisation to craft robust policies for the given environment by combining relevant UPN policies in a DR like fashion. Such policy-driven grounding is expected to be more efficient as it estimates only task-relevant sets of parameters. Further, we also account for the estimation uncertainties in the search process to produce policies that are robust against both aleatoric and epistemic uncertainties. We empirically evaluate our approach in a range of noisy, continuous control environments, and show its improved performance compared to competing baselines.
Model selection is an important problem of cost-sensitive SVM (CS-SVM). Although using solution path to find global optimal parameters is a powerful method for model selection, it is a challenge to extend the framework to solve two regularization parameters of CS-SVM simultaneously. To overcome this challenge, we make three main steps in this paper.
Real-Time Strategy games have become a popular test-bed for modern AI system due to their real-time computational constraints, complex multi-unit control problems, and imperfect information. One of the most important aspects of any RTS AI system is the efficient control of units in complex combat scenarios, also known as micromanagement. Recently, a model-based heuristic search technique called Portfolio Greedy Search (PGS) has shown promisingpaper we present the first integration of PGS into the StarCraft game engine, and compare its performance to the current state-of-the-art deep reinforcement learning method in several benchmark combat scenarios. We then perform theperformance for providing real-time decision making in RTS combat scenarios, but has so far only been tested in SparCraft: an RTS combat simulator. In this same experiments within the SparCraft simulator in order to investigate any differences between PGS performance in the simulator and in the actual game. Lastly, we investigate how varying parameters of the SparCraft simulator affect the performance of PGS in the StarCraft game engine. We demonstrate that the performance of PGS relies heavily on the accuracy of the underlying model, outperforming other techniques only for scenarios where the SparCraft simulation model more accurately matches the StarCraft game engine.
