There are many tools designed to assist game designers. Many of these tools have features that provide help with several different aspects of a game development process, such as physics and graphics. In the recent years, game engines like Unity and Unreal have contributed to popularizing the creation of complex AAA titles, once exclusively developed by major companies.
We never saw so demanding an era about videogame consumption, and the indications are that the demand will continue to increase year after year. From mobile phones to powerful console systems, from kids to elders, there seems to be a market for everyoneÕs gaming needs.
In the gaming industry, content is king. To keep players satisfied, game developers need to invest in compelling characters, stories and eye-candy graphics. Creativity and novelty are musts, since the player should not feel that they are playing the "same" game repetitively in each advancing level.
The need for such creativity and content has led to the emergence of advanced AI-assisted game development tools. Unlike generic game creation tools, such tools specifically focus on AI techniques. For example, they can automatically and flawlessly create levels and environments using minimal inputs. AI can also play games and collect data about gameplay sessions, allowing developers and makers a clear and concise window into the development and debugging process. AI can understand and predict how potential players will be interacting with the game, leading to better insights into future installments and personalized gameplay. Although AI-assisted game design tools are still in their infancy, the results are extremely exciting and present an exemplary mixed-initiative future with human-augmented AI.

So it's fitting how Boeing decided it would celebrate a successful mission. When the crew of the ISS opened the hatch to Starliner, they found a surprise inside the spacecraft. Floating next to Orbital Flight Test-2's seated test dummy was a plush toy representing Jebediah Kerman, one of four original "Kerbonauts" featured in Kerbal Space Program. Jeb, as he's better known by the KSP community, served as the flight's zero-g indicator. Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin took a small doll with him on the first-ever human spaceflight, and ever since it has become a tradition for most space crews to carry plush toys with them to make it easy to see when they've entered a microgravity environment.
Genshin Impact developer Hoyoverse is working on a new project. On Friday, the studio shared the first trailer for Zenless Zone Zero, an action RPG set in a modern urban setting. Reminiscent of titles like The World Ends With You and Scarlett Nexus, the game pits players against Ethereal, monstrous creatures borne from another dimension. In a nod to Neon Genesis Evangelion, the action takes place in New Eridu, one of the few cities to survive the devastation wrought by the Ethereal. As a "Proxy," you'll need to organize a disparate party of characters to battle the monsters.
Six years after its initial release, Stardew Valley has sold more than 20 million copies. Creator Eric Barone shared news of the accomplishment in an update posted to the game's press site and an interview with PC Gamer. "The 20 million copies milestone is really amazing," he told the outlet. But what's even more impressive is the increasing pace of Stardew Valley's sales. It took four years for the game to sell its first 10 million copies.

The Strong National Museum of Play has revealed the Video Game Hall of Fame class of 2022. This year's quartet of honorees are Ms. The finalists that just missed out on a spot this time are Assassin's Creed, Candy Crush Saga, Minesweeper, NBA Jam, PaRappa the Rapper, Resident Evil, Rogue and Words with Friends. All of those are classics in their own way, but it's hard to argue with any of the four picks. Ocarina of Time made it into the Hall of Fame as a first-time nominee.

The latest in a series of deals in the video games industry, the sale announced on Monday includes studios Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, affects 1,100 employees and is expected to close in the July-September quarter. Square Enix, whose major franchises include Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, said the proceeds will be used to invest in areas such as blockchain, artificial intelligence and the cloud. The Tokyo-based company last year said it was reviewing its portfolio to adapt to industry trends such as the focus on the "metaverse," or the idea consumers will spend more time in virtual worlds. Embracer, which has a reputation for acquisitions and a war chest of 10 billion Swedish krona ($1.02 billion), said the deal will give it a pipeline of more than 230 games including 30 big-budget AAA titles.

It also includes 50 back catalogue games and will add 1,100 staff to Embracer, taking its global headcount to more than 14,000. Swedish game company Embracer Group has just made a blockbuster deal to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix Montréal for what seems like a bargain $300 million price, the company confirmed in a press release. The deal includes a "catalogue of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and more than 50 back-catalogue games from Square Enix Holdings," it wrote. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval. Those studios represent around 1,100 employees across eight global locations, the company noted. When the deal is finalized, Embracer will have 14,000 employees, 10,000 game developers and 124 internal studios.
