If you are looking for an answer to the question What is Artificial Intelligence? and you only have a minute, then here's the definition the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence offers on its home page: "the scientific understanding of the mechanisms underlying thought and intelligent behavior and their embodiment in machines."
However, if you are fortunate enough to have more than a minute, then please get ready to embark upon an exciting journey exploring AI (but beware, it could last a lifetime) …

"Innovation in Adobe Sensei, our AI, machine learning and deep learning framework, dramatically accelerates and improves the design and delivery of experiences across any customer touch point." The intelligence layer in the Adobe Cloud Platform, Adobe Sensei provides customers with a unified AI and machine learning framework as well as intelligent services to help them work smarter and faster. In Adobe Experience Cloud, Adobe Sensei already powers over 100 intelligent capabilities including Intelligent Alerts, Automated Advertising Insights, Anomaly Detection and Lookalike Modeling, to help brands better understand and meet their customers' needs. Today, Adobe released several new Sensei capabilities for the enterprise including Fluid Experiences to enable brands to deliver the experience consumers expect across any connected screen, including social, VR, IoT devices and physical screens.
Notably, the majority of deals have focused on acquiring talent, technology, and intellectual property - not on existing revenues and profits - to support and build on existing businesses, and to expand into related fields. And so, apparently as intended all along, Alphabet effectively acquired Motorola's entire patent portfolio for sub-$3.5 billion, to'defend the entire Android ecosystem'. And second, the gross consideration for Motorola is actually less than 50% of the annual $26 billion free cash flow Alphabet now generates! A step-change in strategy is required - that is, listed and much larger target companies, with revenues, profits, and users being the primary driver.
Providing hyperscale data centers with a fast, flexible path for AI, the new HGX-1 hyperscale GPU accelerator is an open-source design released in conjunction with Microsoft's Project Olympus. It will enable cloud-service providers to easily adopt NVIDIA GPUs to meet surging demand for AI computing." NVIDIA Joins Open Compute Project NVIDIA is joining the Open Compute Project to help drive AI and innovation in the data center. Certain statements in this press release including, but not limited to, statements as to: the performance, impact and benefits of the HGX-1 hyperscale GPU accelerator; and NVIDIA joining the Open Compute Project are forward-looking statements that are subject to risks and uncertainties that could cause results to be materially different than expectations.
NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Ingrasys, a subsidiary of Foxconn) announced today their plans for HGX-1, a hyperscale GPU accelerator for AI and cloud computing. This open-source design is being released in conjunction with Microsoft's Project Olympus initiative at the OCP (Open Compute Project) conference and is designed to give hyperscale datacenters a high performance and flexible path for the machine learning industry. The compute model is changing, and machine learning training currently favors GPU computing--NVIDIA's bread and butter. NVIDIA is drawing comparisons between the HGX-1 (and what it hopes to do for cloud-based AI workloads), with what ATX (Advanced Technology eXtended) accomplished for PC motherboards back in 1995.

The AI technology performs real-time recognition of workers' activities by integrating technology in eye-tracking glasses*1to recognize gazed objects with technology in armband devices to recognize action. Researchers from the DFKI research department, Smart Data & Knowledge Services and Hitachi developed AI for human activity recognition to recognize the activity of workers using various data collected through the wearable devices, not image data from cameras. DFKI and Hitachi will advance the technological development for assisting operations and preventing human error on the front line of manufacturing, where operation guidance and inadequate action detection are required, by utilizing this newly developed AI. Currently more than 478 employees from 60 countries are conducting research focusing on Smart Data & Knowledge Services, Cyber-Physical Systems, Multilingual Technologies, Plan-Based Robot Control, Educational Technology Lab, Interactive Textiles, Robotics Innovation Center, Innovative Retail Laboratory, Institute for Information Systems, Embedded Intelligence, Smart Service Engineering, Intelligent Analytics for Massive Data, Intelligent Networks, Agents and Simulated Reality, Augmented Vision, Language Technology, Intelligent User interfaces, Innovative Factory Systems.
