North Atlantic right whales are being weakened by commercial fishing nets, according to new study

Daily Mail - Science & tech

A comprehensive new study of North Atlantic right whales has found the species is significantly smaller and less healthy than southern right whales and could be wiped out in the next 20 years without intervention. The study, the largest of its kind, was organized by Dr. Fredrik Christiansen or Aarhus University in Denmark and involved 12 research institutions across five countries. The team used a fleet of drones to capture images of right whales in the North Atlantic and three major regions in the southern hemisphere. A team of researchers organized by Dr. Fredrik Christiansen or Aarhus University in Denmark used drones to photograph right whales around the world and found North Atlantic right whales are far smaller and less healthy than their southern hemisphere counterparts Using a technique called'aerial photogrammetry,' the team correlated basic information about whale width and length to make determinations about the general health of the whales. In an interview with National Geographic, Christiansen said the team was shocked to find the North Atlantic right whales'looked like a runway…you could basically set up a tent on their backs.'

The Difference Between Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning

#artificialintelligence

After all, it's been a popular focus in movies such as The Terminator, The Matrix, and Ex Machina (a personal favorite of mine). But you may have recently been hearing about other terms like "Machine Learning" and "Deep Learning," sometimes used interchangeably with artificial intelligence. As a result, the difference between artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning can be very unclear. AI means getting a computer to mimic human behavior in some way. Those descriptions are correct, but they are a little concise.

3 AI Stocks Making the World a Better Place

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence is bound to change the future of the world. By fiscal year 2025, the artificial intelligence market size is expected to be $390.9 However, this number does not tell the whole story. By FY2030, the projected growth of global GDP as a result of artificial intelligence is expected to be $15.7 trillion. This projection bodes well for AI stocks.

Sony partners with Microsoft to achieve its AI powered image sensor ambitions

#artificialintelligence

Luckily, Sony is aware of these concerns, and one of the foundational pieces of their sensors is the ability to process data and transmit information while respecting our privacy. Instead of generating actual images, Sony's AI chip can analyze the video it sees and provide just metadata about what's in front of it -- saying instead of showing what's in its frame of vision. Because no data is sent to remote servers, opportunities for hackers to intercept sensitive images or video are dramatically reduced, which should help allay privacy fears. The ability for these chipsets to process data locally means we may finally begin to see meaningful advancements in autonomous driving that go beyond the highway. Like humans, an autonomous car has to be capable of driving whenever, wherever, in any condition, and cannot be reliant on cloud computing to analyze, process, and respond to the world around it.

What Artificial Intelligence means to IBM SVP Rob Thomas – and what this should mean to you - The Analyst Syndicate

#artificialintelligence

In a far-reaching and candid interview after IBM's #THINK2020 digital event, Rob and I discussed his insights into what's happening with AI in the enterprise and where the biggest long-term impacts will be. Editorial comments are set off by square brackets [such as these.] There's one word that describes what I'm seeking here: insight. I am seeking your insights. I don't care about corporate secrets or numbers or competitive positioning. I've looked at your blog posts and reviews of your books.

Why businesses must prepare for hyper automation now

#artificialintelligence

Automation has been used for decades in a wide range of industries to boost efficiency and productivity, reduce waste and ensure quality and safety. Emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and big data analytics are now being combined with automation, to deal with more complex problems and bring further improvements to business processes. This convergence of automation and intelligence is known as hyper automation. Also known as cognitive or smart automation, hyper automation is at the forefront of the 4th Industrial Revolution and is gradually making its way into every aspect of business, delivering unprecedented results. There are a number of factors driving the adoption of hyper automation among enterprises, including the ability to improve operational and service performance.

Transfer Learning For Multi-Class Image Classification Using Deep Convolutional Neural Network

#artificialintelligence

Image classification has become more interesting in the research field due to the development of new and high performing machine learning frameworks. With the advancement of artificial neural networks and the development of deep learning architectures such as the convolutional neural network, that is based on artificial neural networks has triggered the application of multiclass image classification and recognition of objects belonging to the multiple categories. Every latest machine learning framework has a comparative advantage over the older ones in terms of performance and complexity. In this article, we will implement the multiclass image classification using the VGG-19 Deep Convolutional Network used as a Transfer Learning framework where the VGGNet comes pre-trained on the ImageNet dataset. For the experiment, we will use the CIFAR-10 dataset and classify the image objects into 10 classes.
