Lior Rokach is a computer scientist. He is a professor and the former chair of the Department of Software and Information Systems Engineering (SISE) at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU). Lior was born in 1972 in Holon, Israel. He completed his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in 1998,1999, and 2004 respectively at Tel-Aviv University. His research interests lie in designing and analyzing Machine Learning and Data Mining algorithms and their applications in Recommender Systems, Cyber Security, and Medical Informatics.

Building responsible AI: 5 pillars for an ethical future

#artificialintelligence

We are excited to bring Transform 2022 back in-person July 19 and virtually July 20 - 28. Join AI and data leaders for insightful talks and exciting networking opportunities. For as long as there has been technological progress, there have been concerns over its implications. The Manhattan Project, when scientists grappled with their role in unleashing such innovative, yet destructive, nuclear power is a prime example. Lord Solomon "Solly" Zuckerman was a scientific advisor to the Allies during World War 2, and afterward a prominent nuclear nonproliferation advocate. He was quoted in the 1960s with a prescient insight that still rings true today: "Science creates the future without knowing what the future will be."

Consistent Video Depth Estimation

#artificialintelligence

Hey readers, you probably looking at this amazing video effect and thinking would it be possible to capture a video of yours and apply cool effects on your video. Well to do that you need an experienced visual effect maker. Is there any way we can make it automatic and what will it take to make it automatic. First thing is we need to understand the full geometry of the scene and the consistent dense depth for each frame of the video. And Consistent Video Depth Estimation does exactly that and gives you the consistent depth that you need.

How Well Do Researchers Say Chatbots and Other AI Really Perform?

#artificialintelligence

A vast team of over 400 researchers recently released a new open-access study on the performance of recent, popular text-based AI architectures such as GPT, the Pathways Language Model, the (recently controversial) LaMBDA architecture, and sparse expert models. The study, titled the "Beyond the Imitation Game," or BIG, tries to provide a general benchmark for the state of text-based AI, how it compares to humans on the same tasks, and the effect of model size on the ability to perform the task. In all categories, the best humans outdid the best AIs (though that edge was smallest on translation problems from the International Language Olympiad). Bigger models generally showed better results. For some tasks, the improvement was linear with model size.

England's health service will use drones to deliver vital chemotherapy drugs

Engadget

The UK's National Health Service has announced that it will test delivering vital chemotherapy drugs via drone to the Isle of Wight. The body has partnered with Apian, a drone technology startup founded by former NHS doctors and former Google employees. Test flights are due to begin shortly, and it's hoped that the system will reduce journey times for the drugs, cut costs and enable cancer patients to receive treatment far more locally. The Isle of Wight is an island two miles off the south coast of England with a population just under 150,000. Due to the short shelf-life of most chemotherapy drugs, medicines are either rushed onto the island or patients take the ferry to the mainland.

It's alive! How belief in AI sentience is becoming a problem

#artificialintelligence

AI chatbot company Replika, which offers customers bespoke avatars that talk and listen to them, says it receives a handful of messages almost every day from users who believe their online friend is sentient. "We're not talking about crazy people or people who are hallucinating or having delusions," said Chief Executive Eugenia Kuyda. "They talk to AI and that's the experience they have." The issue of machine sentience -- and what it means -- hit the headlines this month when Google placed senior software engineer Blake Lemoine on leave after he went public with his belief that the company's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot LaMDA was a self-aware person. Google and many leading scientists were quick to dismiss Lemoine's views as misguided, saying LaMDA is simply a complex algorithm designed to generate convincing human language.

Radicant And Squirro To Add More Muscle To Fintech With New AI Commitments

#artificialintelligence

Radicant, the first sustainable, digital and collaborative internet-based financial services company which is aligned with the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, is working closely with Squirro. The integration of technology enables radicant to automate decision-making processes and improve customer understanding and service quality. The Swiss tech company Squirro, recognized as a "Visionary" in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Insight Engines, links and analyzes data to provide new insights as a basis for decision-making. So far, this artificial intelligence (AI)-based technology has been made available to decision-makers in companies. In collaboration with radicant, these insights and recommendations are now offered not only within the company but also to radicant's customers.

TensorFlow 2 Pocket Reference: Building and Deploying Machine Learning Models: Tung, KC: 9781492089186: Amazon.com: Books

#artificialintelligence

The TensorFlow ecosystem has evolved into many different frameworks to serve a variety of roles and functions. That flexibility is part of the reason for its widespread adoption, but it also complicates the learning curve for data scientists, machine learning (ML) engineers, and other technical stakeholders. There are so many ways to manage TensorFlow models for common tasks--such as data and feature engineering, data ingestions, model selection, training patterns, cross validation against overfitting, and deployment strategies--that the choices can be overwhelming. This pocket reference will help you make choices about how to do your work with TensorFlow, including how to set up common data science and ML workflows using TensorFlow 2.0 design patterns in Python. Examples describe and demonstrate TensorFlow coding patterns and other tasks you are likely to encounter frequently in the course of your ML project work.

10 Most Popular Types Of Machine Learning Algorithms

#artificialintelligence

We live in quite an exciting time as we see technologies around us developing at a breakneck speed. We are also seeing data overtaking crude oil as the most valuable resource available for this generation's businesses. The transition of computing power from traditional on-premise mainframe data centres to easy-to-use and ever-scalable cloud computing has unlocked limitless possibilities to use data like never before. And we are just getting started to harness the true power of data. Data Science is probably the most famous buzzword in the domain of technology and IT right now. We are seeing the democratization of several tools and techniques working in tandem with the boost in computing. Using the data on almost everything, we can enable computers to learn and replicate actions as humans do.
