Everything You Need To Know About Google's Vertex AI

#artificialintelligence

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai has introduced Vertex AI, a managed machine learning platform for deploying and maintaining AI models, during his keynote speech at the recently concluded Google I/O conference. The new platform brings AutoML and AI Platform together into a unified API, client library and user interface. "When we were training algorithms before, we would have to run millions of test images," said Jeff Houghton, chief operating officer of L'Oréal's ModiFace, which develops augmented reality and AI digital services for the beauty industry. "Now, we can rely on the Vertex technology stack to do the heavy lifting. Vertex has the computing power to figure out complex problems. It can do billions of iterations, and Vertex comes up with the best algorithms," Houghton added.

Google's Nest Audio smart speaker hits new low of $75

Engadget

At $100, Google's impressive Nest Audio was already good value for money, but a 25 percent discount has now brought it down to an even more affordable $75. Perhaps, it's a case of Google countering Amazon's early Prime Day deals on Echo speakers with a new all-time low price. Whatever the reasons behind the latest promo, it's always nice to have another option when shopping for tech. The Nest Audio is a solid bet for music fans on a budget. As we noticed in our tests, it's slightly louder than Apple's HomePod Mini and packs stronger bass, too. Inside the speaker is a 75mm woofer and 19mm tweeter, while the Google Home and Nest Mini make do with single drivers.

Council Post: How To Make Sure That Diversity In AI Works

Chief Technology Officer at Integrity Management Services, Inc., where she is leading cutting-edge technology solutions (AI) for clients. Artificial intelligence is ubiquitous today. Most of us do not know where AI is being used and are unaware of the biased decisions that some of these algorithms produce. There are AI tools that claim to infer "criminality" from face images, race from facial expressions and emotion recognition through eye movements. Many of these technologies are increasingly used in applications that impact credit card checks, fraud detection, criminal justice decisions, hiring practices, healthcare outcomes, spreading misinformation, education, lifestyle decisions and more.

Google is using AI to design chipsets in just six hours

#artificialintelligence

Google is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to design the next generation chipset. And the AI is taking only six hours to design, faster than human designers who take months. "In under six hours, our method automatically generates chip floorplans," Google said. Chip floorplanning refers to designing the physical layout of a computer chip. Despite decades of research, chip floorplanning has defied automation, requiring months of intense effort by physical design engineers to produce manufacturable layouts.

Inside the fight to reclaim AI from Big Tech's control

Timnit Gebru never thought a scientific paper would cause her so much trouble. In 2020, as the co-lead of Google's ethical AI team, Gebru had reached out to Emily Bender, a linguistics professor at the University of Washington, and asked to collaborate on research about the troubling direction of artificial intelligence. Gebru wanted to identify the risks posed by large language models, one of the most stunning recent breakthroughs in AI research. The models are algorithms trained on staggering amounts of text. Under the right conditions, they can compose what look like convincing passages of prose.

How Artificial Intelligence Threatens World Peace

#artificialintelligence

If you follow my blogs, you know that I've been focusing a fair amount of attention on artificial intelligence, and how it has raised reasons for both optimism and extreme ethical pause. In this one, I want to discuss how there is potential for a new conflict not dissimilar to the Cold War with the development and proliferation of nuclear energy; but this time AI will take centre stage of the theatre. Very much akin to nuclear expansion, artificial intelligence comes with its own bag of pros and cons. Indubitably, nuclear energy has been harnessed for the commonwealth of mankind. Water Desalination -- Reducing the saline content of seawater is extremely costly and inefficient.

Google researchers show artificial intelligence can design microchips better and faster than humans

#artificialintelligence

This is an Inside Science story. Artificial intelligence can design computer microchips that perform at least as well as those designed by human experts, devising such blueprints thousands of times faster. This new research from Google is already helping with the design of microchips for the company's next generation of AI computer systems. The process of designing the physical layout of a chip's parts, known as floor planning, is key to a device's ultimate performance. This complex task often requires months of intense efforts from experts, and despite five decades of research, no automated floorplanning technique has reached human-level performance until now.

Can AI Design AI?: Responding to Google's Latest Tech

#artificialintelligence

Could it design a bigger and better computer? A team at Google says yes. According to a recent article at NewScientist, Google has begun using AI to design AI. "Engineers at Google have tasked an artificial intelligence with designing faster and more efficient processors – and then used its chip designs to develop the next generation of specialised computers that run the very same type of AI algorithms," writes Matthew Sparkes. Sparkes continues by explaining Google's chip design, and introducing the reader to Google's Anna Goldie, a member of the team at the front of this effort that tasks computers with making better computers. "It is conceivable," says Sparkes, "that this new AI-designed chip will be used in the future to design its successor, and that successor would in turn be used to design its own replacement."

Is it $61 billion and 38.4% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) by 2028 or $43 billion and 37.4% CAGR by 2027? Depends on which report outlining the growth of edge computing you choose to go by, but in the end it is not that different. What matters is that edge computing is booming. There is growing interest by vendors, and ample coverage, for good reason. Although the definition of what constitutes edge computing is a bit fuzzy, the idea is simple.
