"Artificial intelligence" is a popular marketing buzzword that's made its way to the event industry as event tech providers add and promote more AI features. What is artificial intelligence, and when should you care? Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning technology have come a long way in recent years, and they have a wide range of applications. However, there are some common misconceptions about what AI actually is, having often become synonymous with automation or, more generally, thoughtful computer programming. In the event industry in particular, more and more event tech offerings now market AI features.
In the last tutorial, we completed the Data Pre-Processing step. We saw preprocessing techniques applied in transformation and variable selection, dimensionality reduction, and sampling for machine learning throughout this previous tutorial. Now we can move on to the next steps within the Data Science process, where we'll apply the rest of the model building process with various classification algorithms to understand what it is and how to use machine learning with python language. In the next moment, we will discuss the Regression algorithms. We will not go into detail about the algorithms. The purpose here will be to understand the detailed process of building the Machine Learning model, machine learning, model evaluation, and prediction scans. This has already happened in the financial sector where regulations patterned after Basel rules have created a financial risk management profession to assess financial risks. Last week, the EU published a 108-page proposal to regulate AI systems. This will lead to the emergence of professional AI risk managers. The proposal doesn't cover all AI systems, just those deemed high-risk, and the regulation would vary depending on how risky the specific AI systems are: Since systems with unacceptable risks would be banned outright, most of the regulation is about high-risk AI systems.

Public health systems have turned to machine learning to complement their contact tracing and other efforts to control the disease and track outbreaks. Private healthcare operators have embraced machine learning to remain competitive when faced with a drop in demand for elective surgery or, in many countries, a reluctance or inability to visit hospitals or clinics. The pace of AI and machine learning adoption is also accelerating in hospitals.
