Biggest Bottleneck in Machine Learning and AI

#artificialintelligence

Machine Learning and AI are all the buzz. In the last year, IDC reports that 37.5 billion dollars will be spent on machine learning and AI investments, increasing to close to $100 billion by 2023. Yet organizations still struggle to get value out of their machine learning and AI investments. It's widely known that 80% of any data science project is spent wrangling the data. To compound this fact, machine learning and AI models require high quality data in order to be effective.

How to create a machine learning dataset from scratch?

#artificialintelligence

My grandmother was an outstanding cook. So when I recently came across her old cook book I tried to read through some of the recipes, hoping I could recreate some of the dishes I enjoyed as a kid. However this turned out harder than expected since the book was printed around 1911 in a typeface called fraktur. For example the letter "A" looks like a "U" in fraktur and every time I see a "Z" in fraktur I read a "3" (see Figure 2). So the idea emerged to develop a pipeline that will create a live translation of the fraktur letters into a modern typeface.

This "robot lawyer" can take the mystery out of license agreements

#artificialintelligence

DoNotPay, the "robot lawyer" service that helps you contest parking tickets and even sue people, is launching a new tool to help customers understand license agreements. Called "Do Not Sign," the service is included with DoNotPay's monthly $3 subscription fee, and it lets users upload, scan, or copy and paste the URLs of any license agreements they'd like to check. The service uses machine learning to highlight clauses it thinks users need to know about, including options to opt out from data collection. Agreeing to lengthy license agreements is an almost weekly occurrence for many people, with modern smart devices forcing you to hit "agree" on every new contract. Do Not Sign isn't a replacement for a real lawyer, but it's better than accepting a license agreement sight unseen so you can start using a shiny new gadget, service, or app without delay.
