Ultimately, the future of AI will be a partnership between humans and machines. As long as humans are the masters, and machines are the ones doing all the heavy lifting, things should be OK. The real problem – and the one that causes tech visionaries like Elon Musk and Bill Gates the greatest anxiety over the future of AI – is that humans might one day decide to hand over some of their management and oversight authority to the machines. They won't do so on purpose, of course. But just like many of us are perfectly OK with Silicon Valley AI algorithms determining what we see, hear and read on social media, many of us might also decide that it's safer, cheaper or more convenient to rely on AI doctors or AI soldiers.

CML is built with the objective of bringing ML projects, and MLOps practices in a way such that it should be built on top of traditional engineering tools and not as a separate stack. Increasing Transparency at the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence


In 2018, Congress established the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence (NSCAI)--a temporary, independent body tasked with reviewing the national security implications of artificial intelligence (AI). But two years later, the commission's activities remain little known to the public. Critics have charged that the commission has conducted activities of interest to the public outside of the public eye, only acknowledging that meetings occurred after the fact and offering few details on evolving commission decision-making. As one commentator remarked, "Companies or members of the public interested in learning how the Commission is studying AI are left only with the knowledge that appointed people met to discuss these very topics, did so, and are not yet releasing any information about their recommendations." That perceived lack of transparency may soon change.

Police use facial-recognition tech to arrest another innocent man


Let's say it together: Facial-recognition technology is a dangerous, biased mess. We are reminded of this obvious fact again with the news Friday that an innocent man, despite not looking like the perpetrator at all, was arrested last year after being falsely identified by faulty facial-recognition tech. This is the second known case of facial recognition software directly leading to the arrest of an innocent man. It's something privacy advocates fear will be a growing trend unless drastic action is taken to stop this technology in its tracks. Michael Oliver, then 25, was charged with a felony for supposedly grabbing a phone from a car passenger and throwing it, reports the Detroit Free Press.

A false facial recognition match has led to the arrest of another innocent person. According to the Detroit Free Press, police in the city arrested a man for allegedly reaching into a person's car, taking their phone and throwing it, breaking the case and damaging the screen in the process. Facial recognition flagged Michael Oliver as a possible suspect, and the victim identified him in a photo lineup as the person who damaged their phone. Oliver was charged with a felony count of larceny over the May 2019 incident. He said he didn't commit the crime and the evidence supported his claim.

In turn they aim to drive increased spending and brand loyalty. They say they've cracked the code that many hotels haven't, offering a solution for remembering guest preferences and anticipating their needs that most hotels wouldn't be able to employ on their own. As the company says it in its whitepaper: "Hotel management is a complex and convoluted industry. It is also a highly inefficient one. The need to operate multiple systems, integrate different booking systems, and process reservations via mediums ranging from email to fax, have made hotel management hopelessly complicated."
