In the battle between AI & Metaverse, CEOs choose AI

#artificialintelligence

According to a new Gartner study, AI is the top priority for business leaders for the third year in a row. The AI market is now on its path to reaching $126 billion by 2025, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Hence it's critical for CEOs to grasp the reins and steer their companies into the digital age. Metaverse may be all the rage these days, fuelling popular imagination, taking over movies, games and other pop culture, but when it comes down to the brass tacks, the top bosses at organisations worldwide continue to swear by Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive global growth. AI has become an inseparable part of an organisation.

Businesses are considering AI for reasons ranging from data innovation to developing organisational strategy. The AI market is on its path to reaching $126 billion by 2025, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The Garter 2022 CEO Survey supports the greater relevance of AI for business leaders versus Metaverse.

Metaverse Commerce: Understanding The New Virtual To Physical And Physical To Virtual Commerce Models

#artificialintelligence

New commerce models are starting to emerge as we head into the future of the Metaverse. Look at any Target or Walmart store on a Saturday and watch as customers perfectly dominate the essence of physical-to-physical commerce. In fact, just the experience of being in a physical location leads most customers to make purchases far beyond their shopping lists. That's the reason why brands spend millions of dollars on physical retail locations because they feel confident they can elevate and capitalize on the on-site shopping experience and the "serendipity" that happens in the store. Whether it's waiting in a queue to enter the Louis Vuitton Maison Vendôme store in Paris or going down an in-store slide during a Showfields shopping adventure in New York, the world of physical retail has become more experiential and glitzy. It is one of the drivers of BIG retail.

Siemens, NVIDIA Partner on Industrial Metaverse & AI-driven Digital Twin Technology

#artificialintelligence

Siemens, a leader in industrial automation and software, infrastructure, building technology and transportation, and NVIDIA, a pioneer in accelerated graphics and AI, announced an expansion of their partnership to enable the industrial metaverse and increase use of AI-driven digital twin technology that will help bring industrial automation to a new level. As a first step in this collaboration, the companies plan to connect Siemens Xcelerator, the open digital business platform, and NVIDIA Omniverse, a platform for 3D design and collaboration. This will enable an industrial metaverse with physics-based digital models from Siemens and real-time AI from NVIDIA in which companies make decisions faster and with increased confidence. The addition of Omniverse to the open Siemens Xcelerator partner ecosystem will accelerate the use of digital twins that can deliver productivity and process improvements across the production and product lifecycles. Companies of all sizes will be able to employ digital twins with real-time performance data; create innovative industrial IoT solutions; leverage actionable insights from analytics at the edge or in the cloud; and tackle the engineering challenges of tomorrow by making visually rich, immersive simulations more accessible.

In futurism and science fiction, the metaverse is a hypothetical iteration of the Internet as a single, universal and immersive virtual world that is facilitated by the use of virtual reality(VR) and augmented reality (AR) headsets. For the Metaverse to function, it requires the use of advanced cameras, high-quality screens, immersive sound speakers, noise-canceling microphones, and various other sensors to detect both the real world and the virtual world that a person would be experiencing. The idea of the Metaverse was first thought of and described by Neal Stephenson in his 1992 science fiction novel Snow Crash. One of the more popular headsets for entering the Metaverse today was surprisingly designed by the same people that brought us Facebook: The Oculus Meta Quest 2. The pricing runs about the same as the average gaming console, at $300.

AI is the future: Hasit Trivedi, CTO, Tech Mahindra

Hasit Trivedi, CTO Digital Technologies & Global Head -- AI, Tech Mahindra explains how Artificial Intelligence will reshape the future, what technologies Tech Mahindra is using right now, and more. We are on the verge of a watershed moment in our species' history, one in which a product of our own ingenuity has the potential to change everything. Some see it as humanity's salvation, while others see it as our undoing. The age of artificial intelligence has arrived (AI). While AI is still a long way from the sentient machines depicted in science fiction, developing algorithms that can learn, understand language, and mimic some aspects of the human mind has resulted in tremendous progress.

Meta open sources three new AI-driven acoustic models for better sound in the metaverse

#artificialintelligence

Meta AI has partnered with the University of Texas to open source three new models based on audio-visual perception that can help improve AR/VR experiences. The release is another step toward the direction Meta has taken to shift to a virtual universe. The first model, the Visual Acoustic Matching model or AViTAR, can help transform the acoustics in audio clips and make them sound like the target space in a specific image. For instance, an audio clip that sounded like it was recorded in an empty space could be matched with the image of a crowded restaurant and result in audio that sounded like it was in the restaurant. The second model, called Visually-Informed Dereverberation or VIDA, as the name suggests, performs the opposite function.

AI: The driving force behind the metaverse? - ITU Hub

Defining the metaverse is no easy task, with a mix of academics, journalists and tech experts weighing in differently on what it is or will become. The assortment of opinions may be due to the fact that the metaverse is still in its early stages of development – and there is already more than one in existence, not unlike the distributed ledger technologies popularly known as "blockchain." Most current definitions for the metaverse include a long list of technologies and principles. One definition tech experts seem to agree on is "an online 3D virtual world in which real people interact in real time to do an unlimited variety of virtual activities such as work, travel and play, all supported by its own digital economy." The metaverse is expected to become the next big breakthrough in the Internet's evolution, with seemingly endless potential to transform how we live, transact, learn, and even benefit from government services.

What, Exactly, Is the Metaverse Standards Forum Creating?

WIRED

What do Microsoft, Epic Games, Adobe, Nvidia, and Ikea all have in common? Despite there being no clear definition of what "the metaverse" even means, these companies and more are cooperating to make it interoperable. So what are they actually doing? If you've never heard of the Khronos Group, that's almost by design. The nonprofit and its 150-plus member companies manage and develop open standards that exist under a lot of technology you use today, like OpenGL, Vulkan, and a bunch of other tools that the videogames you play use in the background.
