'Thousands' of MPs and police officers hit by password hack linked to Russia

The passwords of thousands of British politicians, senior police officers and other top officials have been stolen and traded by hackers, it has been reported. The login details of education secretary Justine Greening and business secretary Greg Clark are believed to be some of those that were reportedly exchanged by Russian hackers. The head of IT at the Foreign Office, the director-general of the Department for Exiting the European Union and former detective chief inspector Andy Redwood were also reportedly affected. WhatsApp down: Millions unable to chat after app breaks

WhatsApp suffered an outage on Wednesday evening with users across the world reporting problems accessing the messaging service. Issues with the app, which is used by 1 billion people worldwide, included sending and receiving messages and logging in. It comes exactly two weeks after a similar problem affected the instant messenger. Users complained the'Chats' function was not working and the familiar spinning wheel and'connecting' message appeared when app users tried to send messages. Monitoring website Down Detector reported hundreds of people complaining about the outage, which appeared to have started between 5pm and 6pm (BST).

Three down: Mobile network customers could be receiving calls and have no idea

The network has stopped letting its users receive phone calls – though ringing out appears to work – but it hasn't notified anyone who uses it that it has broken.
