First they sent rescue ships. Now cruise lines plan to give millions to help Caribbean islands recover from Hurricane Irma. Royal Caribbean International's cruise ships made humanitarian aid trips last week to the hard-hit islands of St. Martin and St. Thomas. Majesty of the Seas on Monday was scheduled to sail to both destinations. As a result, the cruise line pushed back the departure of a Bahamas cruise until Tuesday and shortened it to three days (stopping at Nassau and the line's private island of Cococay).

While U.S. cruise ships remain docked by the coronavirus pandemic, some European cruise lines are getting ready to return to the seas. Costa Cruises, an Italian line owned by Carnival Corp., plans to have its flagship Costa Smeralda resume operations next month with an itinerary of three-, four- and seven-day cruises to Savona, La Spezia, Civitavecchia, Naples, Messina and Cagliari. The ship is scheduled to set sail on March 27.

CroisiEurope to launch fifth Mekong River ship for Cambodia-Vietnam cruises

CroisiEurope on Saturday will launch its newest riverboat on the Mekong River in Cambodia. Indochine II, which holds 62 passengers, joins four other ships in the cruise line's fleet dedicated to sailing the Southeast Asian river that flows through six countries.
