WhatsApp down: Millions unable to chat after app breaks

WhatsApp suffered an outage on Wednesday evening with users across the world reporting problems accessing the messaging service. Issues with the app, which is used by 1 billion people worldwide, included sending and receiving messages and logging in. It comes exactly two weeks after a similar problem affected the instant messenger. Users complained the'Chats' function was not working and the familiar spinning wheel and'connecting' message appeared when app users tried to send messages. Monitoring website Down Detector reported hundreds of people complaining about the outage, which appeared to have started between 5pm and 6pm (BST).

HSBC internet banking not working: Customers told to clear their cache to see their cash

HSBC's internet banking has stopped working for its customers. The bank has told people to try flushing out their browser – emptying their cache and cookies – if they want to get to their money. Customers are reporting that the fix does appear to work, and makes the internet banking services work like normal. But there's no obvious way that people would find out about the fix, since people can't load up the website properly. An adviser to Ukraine's interior minister said a version of the "WannaCry" ransomware had caused outages on government websites and those of several companies, a cyber attack he called the worst in Ukraine's history. The hack began in the country but has since spread across the world, hitting companies as widely as Danish shipping company Maersk and British advertising company WPP, the biggest in the world. Adviser Anton Gerashchenko said Ukrainian IT systems had been targeted with "Cryptolocker" a version of WannaCry, the virus that locked up more than 200,000 computers in more than 150 countries in May. Instagram accounts are being mysteriously shut down by a bug

Instagram users are complaining that their accounts appear to have been deleted for no apparent reason. The photo-sharing app's Twitter and Facebook pages are being bombarded with messages from users who have lost access to their accounts and are unable to log in to them. The affected users' Instagram accounts look as if they've been deleted, with the message "Sorry, this page isn't available" appearing on them.
