MacBook Pro 2017 Might Have Apple's Own ARM-Based Processors: Reports

While Apple makes its own A-series processors for iPhones, its MacBooks are powered by Intel processors. Starting this year, the company is expected to go in for its own processors for the MacBook range of laptops, according to a new report. Bloomberg Technology reported on Thursday that Apple has been working on the new chipset since last year and it could be similar to the one on the MacBook Pro 2016 model with the Touch Bar functionality. The processor, currently under development will be built using ARM processor architecture and will bring battery-related improvements to the device such as improved low-power functionality. The new chipset is expected to come with a Power Nap functionality, which will allow MacBooks to install software update, synchronize calendars and retrieve e-mails, despite the device being on sleep mode.


Apple's next-gen 'M2' Mac processor has reportedly gone into production

Apple's successor to its M1 Apple Silicon chip could arrive in MacBook computers by the second half of this year, according to a report from Nikkei. Tentatively known as M2, the processor has reportedly gone into production and could start shipping by July 2021. The chipsets will be produced by fab giant TSMC using its latest technology, known as 5-nanometer plus (N5P). Production of the chipsets will reportedly take at least three months. As before, the M2 would be a complete system-on-a-chip, with CPU, GPU and AI processors all integrated.


Intel, AMD Partner On Chipset, Expected To Make Gaming PCs Thinner, Lighter

The collaboration portends interesting possibilities, particularly for gamers. Intel approached longtime rival AMD for the collaboration and both companies came to an agreement to design the chip, which is expected to be available by the start of next year. The collaboration is unique since AMD's graphics cards are generally used on high-end PCs and Intel makes processor for both affordable and premium PCs. Building a graphics card into the chipset is not easy. As a result, the company was able to design an advanced module which can tie both the Intel chipset and the Radeon chip together.


Huawei 'Kirin 970' chipset with advanced AI processing launched at IFA 2017

Huawei launched the latest mobile Kirin 970 chipset that has its own AI processor built-in. The announcement was made during the ongoing IFA tech show in Berlin. The Kirin 970 chip is powered by an octa-core CPU and the latest generation 12-core GPU. The Chinese smartphone company says the mobile chipset will be built using on a 10nm manufacturing process, similar to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 and Samsung's Exynos 8895 chipsets. It will also support HDR 10, and 4K video recording at 60 frames per second (fps).
