Grindr and Tinder 'must not risk children's safety'

The digital secretary has said he will question Grindr and Tinder about how they protect children after an investigation claimed they are put at risk of sexual exploitation. More than 30 cases of child rape have been investigated by police since 2015 after victims evaded age checks on such apps, the Sunday Times found. Jeremy Wright described it as "truly shocking". Grindr and Tinder said they have measures to prevent minors using them. A Freedom of Information request by the Sunday Times also showed 60 further instances of child sex offences - including grooming, kidnapping and violent assault - through online dating services.

A Florida man who works as a hospital pharmacist was arrested Saturday and charged with sexual battery after he reportedly drugged his Tinder date. According to a police affidavit, Robert Woods, 27, met the woman on the dating app Tinder and the pair agreed to meet at a bar in downtown Tampa, Fox 35 reported. The woman reportedly had one beer at the restaurant before Woods suggested they leave and go to his apartment, where he claimed his friends were having a party. When they arrived, there was reportedly no party.

A homeless man has been charged with sexually assaulting four women in a string of attacks across the Westside, Los Angeles County prosecutors said. Pablo Carlos Pineda, 32, is accused of attacking a woman Jan. 13 on the beach in Santa Monica, according to the district attorney's office. The victim reported that she was walking near the waterline about 6:15 p.m. when a man walked by, grabbed her and slammed her to the ground, according to a police statement earlier this year. "The suspect held the victim down while he physically and sexually assaulted her," police said at the time. Another rape that Pineda is suspected of committing occurred about three weeks later near the beach in Santa Monica, police said.

Suspect subdued with stun gun after stabbing Tinder date suddenly dies, police say

Erich Stelzer, 25, died after being arrested for stabbing a woman, authorities say. A Massachusetts man whom police spotted outside a home, as he was on top of a woman and repeatedly stabbing her, suddenly died after being arrested Thursday night, according to reports. The man, identified as Erich Stelzer, 25, of Cohasset, reportedly died on the way to a hospital after police used a stun gun in an effort to subdue him, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey's office said in a statement Friday. The woman had suffered "extensive stabbing and slashing injuries," the statement said. Prosecutors said she managed to escape from Stelzer and seek medical treatment, the Boston Globe reported.
