A pair of Birmingham police officers were injured while pursuing carjacking suspects. Two Alabama police officers were injured Thursday while pursuing a pair of carjacking suspects, authorities said. The two Birmingham police officers were driving separate cars when one was hit head-on and the other was sideswiped, WBRC-TV reported. One suspect allegedly tried to run over an officer. Dallas to get first female police chief in September

Ulysha Renee Hall will make history in Dallas in September, when she becomes the Texas city's first female police chief. Hall, 46, currently deputy chief of the Detroit Police Department, was selected from a field of seven finalists that included another woman, Deputy Chief Carmen Best of Seattle. Hall followed in her father's footsteps by choosing a career in law enforcement. He was killed in the line of duty when she was just 6 months old. Now, Hall will head a Dallas force that's still coping with the tragedy of July 7, 2016, when a sniper killed five city officers and wounded nine others, as well as two civilians.

French Police: Couple Murdered in IS Group Attack Outside Paris

A senior police captain and his partner were murdered in a Paris suburb late Monday by a 25-year-old ex-convict who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group. The man, Larossi Abballa, was shot dead by French forces. The couple's 3-year-old boy, who was home, survived the attack. Abballa repeatedly stabbed the police captain before taking his partner and their child hostage; the partner was later found dead.
