YouTube announced its order for eight episodes of a documentary series for YouTube Red in 2019 on artificial intelligence that will be executive produced by Team Downey partners Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey, Network Entertainment's Derik Murray and Paul Gertz, and Sonar Entertainment's Jenna Santoianni and Tom Lesinski. The series will showcase some of the brightest minds in science, philosophy, technology, engineering, medicine, futurism, entertainment and the arts to tell the dynamic story of A.I. The logline: Robert Downey Jr. will bring his genuine enthusiasm and curiosity for the subject to the screen, hosting and narrating the series and uncovering insights from researchers and leading experts who will share their unique perspectives. The series will explore the impact of A.I. and how it is transforming the way we live and work -- both now and in the future. The Untitled A.I. Series will be executive produced by Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey, through their production company, Team Downey, with Team Downey's Emily Ford also serving as executive producer, and Evan Moore overseeing the project.

According to a statement, the still-untitled series will feature "some of the brightest minds in science, philosophy, technology, engineering, medicine, futurism, entertainment and the arts" in eight one-hour long episodes that Downey will host and narrate. The Downeys' production company, Team Downey, is partnering with Network Entertainment (I Am Heath Ledger, Johnny Cash: American Rebel) and Sonar Entertainment (Mr. Mercedes, Taboo). "Robert and I share a curiosity for AI, a complicated and often polarizing subject," said Susan Downey in a statement. "Our aim is to explore AI through a lens of objectivity and accessibility, in a thoroughly bold, splashy, and entertaining way." Downey's AI show is a notable get for the subscription-based YouTube Red, which is still finding its footing among streaming competitors Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu.

Robert Downey Jr. knows all about artificial intelligence. Okay, fine – he's spent the last decade playing a character who does. Now the once and future Iron Man will have a chance to learn about A.I. up close and personal, because he'll be serving as the host of a new YouTube documentary series devoted to that topic. Deadline reports that Team Downey, the production company run by Robert and his wife/producing partner Susan Downey, has teamed with Network Entertainment and Sonar Entertainment to produce an eight-episode show set to debut on YouTube Premium (formerly YouTube Red) in 2019. Each episode will be an hour long, but the series doesn't have an official title yet.
