Two Essential Approaches To Digital Transformation

For the past several years, digital transformation has been a constant topic of focus in the business community. Much has been written about the risks of digital disruption and the need for digital transformation in the world of digital platforms. But what does digital transformation really mean--and why do so many companies fail to achieve their goals? One of the main problems is that there are actually two types of digital transformation: linear and exponential. Most companies want the results of the exponential transformation, but focus instead on the linear transformation, which is easier to understand and implement.

Digital transformation is revolutionizing every industry in the world. As companies recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, digital technologies play a key role in paving the way towards more efficiency, resiliency, and sustainability. Implementing digital technologies in your business is a challenging process. A recent study conducted on CIOs and CTOs from USA and UK revealed that 60% of companies' digital transformation ability is not enough for the future. This article explores some major challenges that companies face while digitally transforming their business and how they can overcome them.

The definition of Digital Transformation 7wData


The definition of digital transformation is the realignment of, or new investment in, technology, business models, and processes to drive new value for customers and employees and more effectively compete in an ever-changing digital economy. This is how I define digital transformation, having evolved it slightly over the years. This definition, which was introduced in 2013/14, was different at the time in that it didn't solely focus on technology. Early in its rise though the hype cycle, digital transformation was largely technology-centric with a majority of its audience consisting of CIOs, IT (information technology) professionals, vendors, integrators and consultants. While this is still the case, I noticed in my early research, that digital transformation was more than "digital."
