Elon Musk and many of the world's most respected artificial intelligence researchers have committed not to build autonomous killer robots. The public pledge not to make any "lethal autonomous weapons" comes amid increasing concern about how machine learning and AI will be used on the battlefields of the future. The signatories to the new pledge – which includes the founders of DeepMind, a founder of Skype, and leading academics from across the industry – promise that they will not allow the technology they create to be used to help create killing machines. iPhone Siri prank tricks people into phoning emergency services

A prank designed to trick iPhone users into calling emergency services is currently spreading online. Owners of Apple products are being encouraged to say '108' to Siri, unaware of the consequences. As 108 is the equivalent of 999 in India, the digital assistant will recognise it as a command to contact emergency services in the phone user's local area. WWDC: Apple launches HomePod, a Siri speaker 'to reinvent home music'

Apple has officially launched HomePod, a Siri-powered talking music system for the home. It looks unusual, like a cross between Google Home and the Mac Pro, all wrapped up in mesh. Apple says it has "the power to rock the house", thanks to its use of seven different tweeters, and the huge bass woofer that sits right in the middle. Apple WWDC: Siri assistant gets a new voice on iPhone with iOS 11

Apple has given Siri a new voice. The virtual chatterbox found inside the iPhone now sounds much smarter and more human, according to the company, which unveiled the changes at WWDC. The new voice uses machine learning to replicate the way that people actually speak, according to Apple's engineering head Craig Federighi. Amazon Alexa just got a lot more useful for Apple customers

You can now link your iCloud Calendar to the Alexa voice assistant. Amazon has just rolled out the functionality to Alexa-compatible devices, describing it as "a top requested feature". The announcement should please iPhone, iPad and Mac users, who can now organise their calendar and quickly find out about their schedule by chatting to Alexa.
