Samsung Galaxy S8 latest: New AI assistant Bixby to speak eight languages

The Independent - Tech

New details about Bixby, the Samsung Galaxy S8's AI assistant, have emerged ahead of the phone's unveiling next month. The virtual helper will support up to eight languages at launch, including English, Korean and Chinese, according to SamMobile. That pushes it out in front of Google Assistant, which supports English and German on the Pixel phone, as well as Hindi, Japanese and Portuguese through the controversial Allo messaging app. However, both trail some way behind Apple's Siri, which supports over 20 different languages. Samsung Galaxy S8 blocks users from customising Bixby button, despite Voice delay

The Independent - Tech

Samsung is blocking users from reconfiguring the Bixby button on the Galaxy S8. The company has made a number of ambitious claims about the virtual assistant, which is being marketed as one of the phone's key features. In a move designed to help establish Bixby as a genuine rival to Google Assistant, Samsung even decided to equip the S8 with a physical Bixby button. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph. Android Wear 2.0: Update guarantees iPhone users access to key apps including Uber and Strava

The Independent - Tech

Google has announced Android Wear 2.0, the latest version of the company's operating system for wearables. The software brings a number of new features and performance improvements, but one of the most significant is standalone apps. Users will finally be able to search for apps and download them from Google Play directly on a smartwatch, rather than through a smartphone, as long as it's connected to the web via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or LTE. This should dramatically improve the Android Wear experience for iPhone users, who can't access the Play store via iOS. Airbus shows off plans for driverless flying car

The Independent - Tech

Airbus and Italdesign have unveiled Pop.Up, a modular autonomous flying car concept that can operate on the ground and in the air. It comprises a capsule that can be attached to and detached from a wheeled base or drone-like rotors, both of which are electric, depending on the passenger's needs. Airbus believes it could also be used with hyperloop systems in the future, for super-fast transport. Pop.Up is just a concept, but Airbus envisages that the vehicles would form part of a wider ride-hailing system, much like Uber.
