In 2018, creators are figuring out how to bridge the gap between traditional cinematography and interactivity -- and few people are driving the medium forward as directly as Sam Barlow. Barlow is the creator of Her Story, a critically acclaimed 2015 video game that imitated an old-school database packed with VHS clips of police interviews. It featured a live actor, and introduced innovative mechanics based around tagging and the start-and-stop nature of VHS tapes. Her Story is a video game, so players accepted its interactivity without question. Barlow's latest project (which just went live this week on Steam and Eko) is an updated version of the beloved 1983 sci-fi hacking film WarGames -- and it's also interactive.
Many fans of classic RPGs have been eagerly awaiting the release of Torment: Tides of Numenera, the sequel to the revered and critically acclaimed Planescape: Torment. We don't have long to wait; Torment: Tides of Numenera has gone gold and is scheduled for release on February 28th. If that seems like too long to wait, you can get a taste right now. Inxile, the game's developer, has released an interactive video that lets you play through a short side-quest from early in the game. The video is narrated by Colin McComb the Creative Lead for Torment.
To access the interactive map, a new "Live Video" app is available on the left navigation bar in your Facebook timeline. In addition to showing where a stream is originating, when you click on a video, it also shows where it's being viewed. The interactive map should help fans of live videos find new broadcasters. Before today, the only way to know if an account is live streaming is by following that person or brand and waiting for a notification. Facebook has been pushing Live Video aggressively lately.
Hold onto your butts, folks. Your Pornhub experience is about to get a lot more...intimate? The massive adult entertainment platform has just launched an entirely new and very NSFW category of videos that are meant to be used in conjunction with interactive sex toys. They're the first of the free sites to offer this kind of integration, but it's pretty clear this is the future. Corey Price, Pornhub's Vice President, said in a statement, "Over the course of the past year alone immersive technologies, particularly teledildonics, have quickly taken the industry by storm and garnered critical acclaim for their ability to provide users with something that teeters on reality."
