LG teases new G6 smartphone for launch ahead of MWC 2017

The Independent - Tech

LG has sent out invitations to an event taking place on 26 February, where it is expected to launch a new flagship smartphone. The company failed to get pulses racing with the experimental G5 last February, and will be hoping to bounce back with a dramatically different follow-up. The image shows fireworks exploding in the night sky, before the tagline, "See More, Play More" appears on-screen. It's a nod to the rumoured LG G6, which will feature a display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, according to ZDNet. US Army 'hoverbike' drone will carry guns and armour into battle

The Independent - Tech

The'hoverbike' quadcopter being developed by the US Army looks set to be used for the delivery of supplies, rather than soldiers. The Joint Tactical Aerial Resupply Vehicle (JTARV), as it's formally known, was previously believed to have been designed to carry soldiers into battle wherever and whenever reinforcements were required, but a new release from the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) makes no reference to that particular use-case. It instead likens the contraption, which resembles a pair of drones attached to a table-top, to Amazon's delivery service. Galaxy Note 7 explosion chaos inspires fire-extinguishing batteries

The Independent - Tech

A team of researchers at Stanford University has created a lithium-ion battery designed to extinguish itself if it ever overheated and caught fire. The battery contains flame retardant chemical compound triphenyl phosphate (TPP), which sits inside a shell within the electrolyte fluid. The shell melts at 150C (302F), releasing the TPP and thereby eliminating any risk of a full-blown fire. In tests cited by the research, published in the journal Science Advances, the burning battery extinguished itself after 0.4 seconds.
