FREMONT, CA – Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed the business world, contributing trillions to the global economy. The adoption of AI has boosted numerous industries over the years, and the supply chain is one of them. Effective deployment of AI offers precision and agility to supply chain management, no matter the sector. The industries that had implemented AI and machine learning (ML) early on reported a booming rise in efficiency and drop in costs, not to mention the reduction in safety risks. AI in the supply chain can be used to empower drones to manage inventory and guide automated supply carts inside the warehouse.

2017 The Watershed Moment for the AI-Enabled Supply Chain


What a year it's been for the supply chain industry. It was rich in innovation and collaboration that brought big ideas to fruition. Most notably, I'm thrilled to see IBM Supply Chain Insights come to market this December. I'm very excited to introduce the world to the work that my team has done to improve our own supply chain processes tenfold. We saw a need to make better use of our data to gain more flexibility and transparency by incorporating artificial intelligence to supply chain processes, and it's been a great journey to bring this idea to life!

Is artificial intelligence greening global supply chains? Exposing the political economy of environmental costs


Artificial intelligence (AI) is set to greatly enhance the productivity and efficiency of global supply chains over the next decade. Transnational corporations are hailing these gains as a'game changer' for advancing environmental sustainability. Yet, looking through a political economy lens, it is clear that AI is not advancing sustainability nearly as much as industry leaders are claiming. As this article argues, the metrics and rhetoric of corporate social responsibility are exaggerating the benefits and obscuring the costs of AI. Productivity and efficiency gains in the middle sections of supply chains are rebounding into more production and consumption, doing far more to enhance the profitability of big business than the sustainability of the earth.
