Chest CT scans are an integral part of the diagnosis and management of COVID-19. They help decide severity of the condition, which in turn helps physicians design the right course of treatment. However, this can be time-consuming as all the lung lobes must be carefully evaluated. In the process, interpreting chest CT scans accurately can be very subjective, which could potentially lead to misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatments.

The panel called for leveraging the power of AI and its potential to transform the real estate landscape especially in India with appropriate investments. Incorporating data and AI based algorithms is enabling leading real estate platforms like Compass, in decision making process and at the same time is also assisting them in managing the substantial volumes of historic data that has been generated within the industry over the years and monitor bespoke KPIs in order to expedite procedures and extract useful data.


Regulation of Artificial Intelligence in Drug Discovery and Health Care

It is going to be interesting to see how society deals with artificial intelligence, but it will definitely be cool. Artificial intelligence (AI) can be defined to mean the use of intelligent machines to replicate and augment the intelligence of human beings. The Turing test was propounded to show what factors determine whether a machine operates on artificial intelligence or not. AI applications are being used in various fields such as telecommunication, banking, agriculture, manufacturing, health care, and transportation. The implementation of AI in health care aims to enhance the lives of the patients and enable physicians, doctors, hospitals, and administrators to improve health care delivery in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner. The traditional drug industry is also experiencing a wave of change due to the implementation of AI-based processes in drug discovery and development. Substitution of AI technology-based solutions in place of the traditional methods for drug discovery is expected to reduce the time for drug development. Using AI in clinical trials has reduced the time required for drug trials from 4–6 months to three months. After the analysis of the genomic data from different patients, AI helps by selecting only those patients whose genetic profile suggests it will help them to undergo testing in the clinical trial.2 Machine learning technologies, deep learning algorithms, various neural networks (such as artificial neural networks or computational neural networks), and content screening are a few examples of AI that have brought radical changes to the process of drug discovery and development.

Deepak: AI applications in the Indian pharma industry has definitely not caught up as much as it has in some other industries like e-commerce or Financial services. With AI there is always a need for scale (as scale allows learning to happen faster) and most of the attempts have hence been consumer or patient facing. In the developed world we do hear about large scale solutions in imaging and diagnosis, in clinical trials and in pipeline success measurement. Specifically, within Abbott we have identified a few focus areas namely forecasting, decision tree applications like attrition prediction, robotic process automation in internal data management processes and in delivering superlative user experience for the salesforce through Maya, our virtual assistant for the sales reps and in recommendation engines in KnowledgeGenie. AI and Robotics considered future skills for employment by college graduates
