Dubai Chamber announces deadline for 3rd Dubai Smartpreneur Competition

Dubai, UAE: The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has announced April 9th 2018 as the deadline for receiving applications for the third edition of the Dubai Smartpreneur Competition, which was launched recently in cooperation with the Smart Dubai Office. This year, the competition is seeking business ideas in three categories, namely – Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation. Entries will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges who will select the submissions offering the most potential. The Dubai Smartpreneur Competition falls in line with Dubai Chamber's comprehensive strategy that aims to nurture and develop Dubai's entrepreneurial eco-system. Launched as an initiative of Dubai Chamber in 2016, Dubai Startup Hub is an interactive platform that connects startups, entrepreneurs, developers, venture capitalists and students, enabling them to learn about new opportunities and create new partnerships that stimulate economic growth.



Dubai rolls out Master's degree in data analytics

Dubai: Smart Dubai, in partnership with Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), has developed a Master of Science (MSc) in Data Analytics programme, Dubai Media Office announced on Monday. The programme, which has secured accreditation from the Ministry of Education, tackles the increasingly influential field of data, which has become the cornerstone of advanced services and smart city transformations around the world, Dubai Media Office said. Described as the first-of-its-kind in the region, the programme is now open for registration until September 30, with the official launch set for the first week of October. The 11-month programme, comprising of 33 semester credit hours, was developed following an agreement signed between Smart Dubai and the Rochester Institute of Technology in Dubai (RIT Dubai) in July 2017. Under the agreement, Smart Dubai developed the main objectives of the initiative and led the charge in securing scientific accreditation for the programme.


Artificial intelligence helps Dubai Police arrest 550 criminals

A smart system powered by artificial intelligence has helped the Dubai Police arrest 550 people in 2018, it was announced on Saturday. Of these, 109 were'wanted' criminals, while 441 were suspects in different crimes. The'smart area' system helped decrease the number of'disturbing crimes' from 25 reported in 2017 to one this year. The system uses face recognition cameras to flag wanted criminals and suspects. Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police for criminal investigation, said that the project is equipped with "state of the art smart tools to reduce crime rates".
