Volvo will test driverless cars on London roads next year

Selected Volvo drivers will be able to put the car inro a self-driving mode in certain parts of London. Driverless cars are coming to the streets of London, with Volvo announcing plans to put autonomous vehicles in the hands of real people on the UK capital's roads. The scheme, dubbed Drive Me London, will begin in early 2017 and comes alongside autonomous vehicle testing on the congested roads of China, as well as the streets of Gothenburg in Volvo's native Sweden, as the car manufacturer looks to research the practicalities of driverless cars in live environments. "We're trying to understand how to bring the technology of self-driving cars to the real world and we believe that the real world is the best place where you can learn," Erik Coelingh, senior technical leader for safety and driver support technologies at Volvo, told ZDNet. Starting in January, autonomous vehicles will be tested on UK roads in up to three cities.

Audi has several plans for self-driving that include AI which standares for Artifical Intelligence or Audi Intelligence. The Audi A8 that premiered in Frankfurt is the first production automobile to permit conditional automated driving on public roads. For the first time, drivers will be able to completely turn over the task of driving in certain situations. To demonstrate what driving will look like in the future Audi offered two concept cars, Audi Elaiane and Audi Aicon. The company has invested heavily in AI and explains that the Audi A8 is Level 3 autonmous driving. Audi gives its vehicles intelligence. The Audi A8 has the most intelligent self-driving to date with Audi AI traffic jam pilot that doesn't need to be monitored (read below for exact details). The future includes self-valet parking without people, huge touchscreens and acting as personal assitant to the car owner who doesn't have to drive. Audi Elaine is an electric-powered SUV coupe that in a few short years will make highly automated driving possible – at times even without a driver on board. The driver parks the Audi in a designated area – the "handover zone" – and exits the vehicle. Thanks to Audi AI, the car does all of this itself. With the four-door design vision Audi Aicon, the brand with the four rings is presenting a autonomous Audi of the future – with no steering wheel or pedals. As a design concept, the four-door 2 2 boldly leaps ahead to show the exterior and interior design of the next decades.
