Kacey Musgraves Tells Workplace Harassment to Giddyup in the Video for "High Horse"

Slate

Kacey Musgraves, the future of country music, has released a new video for her song "High Horse." Like the song itself, which blends disco queen vibes with country twang, the video is a mashup, alternating between a killer karaoke party and an office day dream. And not just any office, but a throwback full of '70s-style burnt orange, wood paneling, popped collars, and plenty of smoking--not to mention some sleazy male co-workers, complete with bad combovers. There are some subtle nods in the video to the #MeToo movement, as one creepy, mustachioed colleague tries to put his arm around Musgraves and sips from a coffee cup branded with the words "Mustache Rides." But Musgraves' character confidently dismisses his behavior, singing "I think we've seen enough."

Kacey Musgraves fires back at Twitter troll who says her 'personality seems sh--ty'

Country music singer Kacey Musgraves urged fans in Chicago to chant'somebody f--king do something' following the mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas. However, that didn't stop the country music superstar from firing off a witty response to a hater on Twitter who sent a rude remark in her direction on Sunday. "I liked your music but your personality seems sh--ty," the user wrote, prompting the 31-year-old singer to quip back, "it is," before pinning the tweet to her user profile for all to see when they visit her account. The six-time Grammy-winning songstress has never shied away from keeping it real with herself or her fans. In October, the "Golden Hour" singer admitted that she drew inspiration for two songs -- "Slow Burn" and "Mother" -- off of her Grammy-winning album from hallucinogens.

David Crosby Discovers Kacey Musgraves

Mother Jones

David Crosby, the founding member of The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash evidently stumbled across Kacey Musgraves earlier this week. Many, many people have heard that girl, including members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, who awarded her the 2019 Grammy Award for Album of the Year for her album Golden Hour. There actually is a resonance between Musgraves's earnest sound and Crosby's own that makes the thought of the 77-year-old rock veteran jamming to Golden Hour seem totally apt. Musgraves, like Crosby, is no stranger to rebellion against the status quo. Crosby may have debated whether to eschew his hippie looks and cut his hair, but Musgraves injected country music with that same freewheeling mentality when, in her 2013 single "Follow Your Arrow," she told listeners to "kiss lots of boys, or kiss lots of girls if that's something your into."
