Guidelines for AI procurement

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence is a technology that has the potential to greatly improve our public services by reducing costs, enhancing quality, and freeing up valuable time of frontline staff. Recognising this, the UK Government published the Data Ethics Framework and A Guide to using AI in the Public Sector to enable public bodies to adopt AI systems in a way that works for everyone in society. These new procurement guidelines will help inform and empower buyers in the public sector, helping them to evaluate suppliers, then confidently and responsibly procure AI technologies for the benefit of citizens.

NSW government turns to Microsoft for procurement monitoring

The New South Wales government has announced signing Microsoft to help it commercialise its data science capabilities, initially focusing on the state's AU$30 billion procurement spend. Big data is transitioning from one of the most hyped and anticipated tech trends of recent years into one of the biggest challenges that IT is now trying to wrestle and harness. We examine the technologies and best practices for taking advantage of big data and provide a look at organizations that are putting it to good use. The NSW Data Analytics Centre (DAC), stood up in August 2015, will work with the local arm of Microsoft to offer data-related products both inside and outside of government, and "turbo-charge" the government's digital and data agenda. Under the arrangement, DAC data scientists are using Microsoft Azure and a range of Azure cognitive services to build a machine learning neural network to categorise how the NSW government's AU$30 billion annual procurement budget is allocated each year.

Global spend management cloud provider, Ivalua, have announced the findings of a worldwide study of over 400 supply chain, procurement, and finance business leaders, which found that over 55% of organisations are planning to invest in AI during the next two years. Conversely, two-thirds of respondents (59%) said that poor data quality will make it impossible for AI to make accurate and informed decisions – ultimately undermining any ROI. "There is clearly a huge appetite for AI and this will only increase as more relevant applications and success stories come to light," said David Khuat-Day, Corporate CEO of Ivalua. "But when investing in AI, it's important that organisations address challenges that will otherwise limit value.
