Netflix is getting rid of written user reviews

Mashable

Looks like the next generation of movie reviewers are going to need to find a new outlet to hone their craft. Or, more likely, trolls are going to need to find a new place to complain about the ruination of their childhoods thanks to the next Star Wars film. Netflix has announced that as of July 30, users will no longer be able to leave a written review on the movie or TV show they just watched. The thumbs up/thumbs down rating system will remain.

If you're browsing Netflix for a new show to watch, don't bother looking for reviews on the platform to see if a title is worth your time. The streaming service is done purging user reviews -- a decade's worth of comments praising and excoriating shows, all gone. Under the question "How do I post reviews on Netflix?," the service's Help Center now says: "Netflix customers were able to leave reviews on Netflix.com until mid-2018, when reviews were removed due to declining use. To learn how Netflix suggests TV shows and movies we think you'll love, visit our Ratings & Recommendations article." It won't come as a surprise if you previously heard about the company's decision to remove written reviews by mid-August.

Netflix is ending its 5-star user rating system. The streaming media service confirmed it will switch from star ratings to a simpler "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" in April. Netflix will also introduce a "percent match" score based on what content its users are watching.
