900,000 Australians opt out of My Health Record

ZDNet

As of 12 September, around 900,000 Australians had opted out of My Health Record. This represents three percent of those citizens and residents who are eligible for a Medicare card or a Department of Veterans Affairs card. The figure includes opt-outs via the website and call centre, but not those being processed by paper forms. There was a "significant surge" in opt-outs at the start of the opt-out period, and then a "significant drop-off", echoing the pattern seen in the trials of Australia's centralised digital health record system, officials from the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) told the Senate Senate Community Affairs Reference Committee on Monday night. "This is ... significantly lower than the original forecast we have anticipated, and in line with other international examples [including the UK and Austria]," said Tim Kelsey, chief executive officer of ADHA.

There have been numerous attempts to distill the essence of Bioinformatics and Health Informatics. Many, such as Shortliffe, have done little more than give a sweeping historical treatment of the utilization of computers in the healthcare setting and the associated metadata structures that serve to allow these systems to document the many intervention, condition, biometric markers, and diagnostic codes prevalent in modern hospitals using electronic health record systems today. Other books tend to focus on the analytical methodologies specific to a sub-domain of healthcare such as the tools and techniques used in gene sequencing, or the formats of MRI, PET or CAT scan imagery and the associated computational language and tools utilized by radiologists. Here we find a book that will help provide a reader with a Swiss Army knife of information from which they can begin to approach the process, management, and instrumentation of computational resources inherent in modern-day clinical research. There is something for everyone here, from the first semester health informatics student looking to better understand computational research in general, to the seasoned researcher looking to better manage the computational resources at their disposal.

Using machine learning to selectively highlight patient information

#artificialintelligence

Clinicians seek relevant patient data in EMR systems to accomplish clinical tasks. We developed and evaluated a learning electronic medical record (LEMR) system. LEMR uses machine learning models to identify and highlight relevant patient data. Machine learning models are built from information-seeking behavior of clinicians. Electronic medical record (EMR) systems need functionality that decreases cognitive overload by drawing the clinician’s attention to the right data, at the right time.

Trump Medical Record 'Raid' Raises Patient Privacy Questions

U.S. News

In Bornstein's account, he wasn't given a form authorizing him to release Trump's records. He said the men, who included Alan Garten, the chief legal officer for the Trump Organization, took the originals and copies of Trump's charts and lab reports, including records filed under fake names the office used. Doctors who treat celebrities often use pseudonyms to further protect celebrities' privacy.
