St. Vincent Hospital on Sunday said the Worcester hospital has hired more than 100 permanent replacement nurses who are "stepping into roles vacated by nurses on strike." This comes less than a week after the hospital said it had presented the Massachusetts Nurses Association with its "last, best and final offer." The nurses' strike has now hit five months, as the Massachusetts Nurses Association says the offer from the hospital last week was a "disappointing proposal" and an "unsatisfactory ultimatum." St. Vincent Hospital on Sunday said the more than 100 permanent replacement nurses will be joined by additional nurses in the coming weeks. "These nurses are stepping into roles vacated by nurses on strike with the Massachusetts Nurses Association, and are providing excellent care for patients during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic," the hospital said in a statement.
A nurse who died with Covid-19 inspired nearly her entire family to join the NHS. Linda Obiageli Udeagbala, from Croydon, died aged 60 earlier this month, after 17 years working for the health service. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Francis, a psychiatric nurse, and five adult children: Cheyrinne, a midwife, Angelica, a paediatric nurse, Gerard and Colin, who are both mental health nurses and Marvin, who is self-employed.
Nurse has agreed to become the next coach of the Toronto Raptors, a person with direct knowledge of the hire told the Associated Press on Tuesday. Nurse will be replacing his former boss, Dwane Casey -- under whom Nurse spent the past five seasons as a Raptors assistant. Casey was fired after the Raptors were swept out of the second round of this year's playoffs by Cleveland.
Across America and around the world, nurses are delivering excellent care. It is a nurse who is holding the phone as a family member is saying goodbye to a patient that they can't even see. It's the nurse who will be in that room when the ventilator is withdrawn. And it is a nurse who will be bathing the body of that patient and calling that family to comfort them after the death. Nurses are really the predominant work force across all settings of care for every population impacted by this disease.
"I was helping one of the nurses, it was kind of a slow afternoon and this nurse had Marc Anthony's'Vivir Mi Vida' quietly playing on her cell phone," Mier remembered. "She's getting the site ready to put in the needles, I'm on the computer, and she starts to hum the song. The lyrics are, 'Sometimes the rain comes and cleans us of our pain. Sometimes it's just a drop and sometimes it just continues. But why cry, why talk about my pain, just forget about the suffering because that's life.'
