The two Birmingham police officers were driving separate cars when one was hit head-on and the other was sideswiped, WBRC-TV reported. One suspect allegedly tried to run over an officer. Malik Muhammed, 24, was taken into police custody in Indianapolis on multiple warrants, the Portland Police Bureau said. He is charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder, attempted aggravated murder, unlawful manufacture of a destructive device, and unlawful use of a weapon. An incendiary device authorities say a man used to hurl at Portland police officers during demonstrations last year. "I am grateful to the investigators who spent many hours over the last few months following up these violent attacks against police officers and the community," Police Bureau Chief Chuck Lovell said in a statement.
FUKUOKA – Gold bars worth ¥600 million ($5 million) were stolen by men disguised as police officers in the city of Fukuoka sometime around spring this year, investigative sources said Wednesday. According to the sources, a group of men on the way to a cash-for-gold store was approached by the fake police officers near JR Hakata Station. The men were carrying briefcases containing more than 100 kg of gold bars, which the fake police officers took before escaping by car. The men explained to police that they had been making money by reselling precious metals. They also said they had purchased the gold bars the day before the incident.
An attorney for the parents announced the filing of the two lawsuits Tuesday. Television station KVIA reports both suits accuse Officer Jose Rivas and four other officers of using excessive force and violating the civil rights of the eight children in the July 5 confrontation and another incident in late 2016.
