AI and robotics has progressed at a tremendous rate in the past few years, and this progression has led to a number of doom-laden proclamations about its potential impact on jobs, with academics and government lending their voice to the potential downside to AI. There has also been a response from industry, with the Partnership on AI created by a cohort of tech companies, including IBM, Microsoft, and DeepMind. The group was created to"study and formulate best practices on AI technologies, to advance the public's understanding of AI, and to serve as an open platform for discussion and engagement about AI and its influences on people and society." Of course, it's certainly not uncommon for the media to dwell on the risks of any new technology, and there are certainly a wide range of exciting possible use cases for AI in the coming years. A recent report from Data Innovation set out to showcase a number of them.

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) could start forcing visa applicants and refugees from the seven Muslim-majority countries included in President Trump's controversial executive order to surrender their social media passwords before entering the country. If the security measures were introduced, visitors from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen would be required to share their account details with officials, who would presumably be permitted to use them to access private information, including pictures and messages. "We want to get on their social media, with passwords," DHS secretary John Kelly told the House Committee on Homeland Security this week. "What do you do, what do you say? If they don't want to cooperate then you don't come in."

Artificial Intelligence (AI) represents a combination of various technologies including Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Speech Recognition, Context Aware Processing, Neural Network, and Predictive APIs. AI will be found in virtually everything, ranging from individual products and applications to wide spread systems and networks. Network infrastructure and computing equipment will rely upon AI algorithms for decision making while at the device level AI will be built into electronics at the chipset level. This report provides a multi-dimensional view into the AI market including analysis of embedded devices and components, embedded software, and AI platforms. This research also assesses the combined Artificial Intelligence (AI) marketplace including embedded IoT and non-IoT devices, embedded components (including AI chipsets), embedded software and AI platforms, and related services.
